My retirement plan of leaving New England from March 15 - May 15 every year is the only way to avoid dreck season.

I struggle getting into any serial type show. I was determined to follow through on the most recent season of Fargo and made it maybe 5 episodes. Unless I'm stuck at home for a few days and can just binge straight through, I can't hand with the extended story type things.

All I know is that if your kids are playing with anything other than this, you're a bad parent!

I had a pizza delivery job as a second job in my early 20’s. If might have been my favorite job. No defined delivery area in rural VT let go in some long rides and meet some pretty interesting people.

I also think that what is missing from some of this the recognition that there was always a push for people to provide a "better life" for their children. The difference now is that what is considered a "better life" has changed. Gone are the days when it was defined as "My parents worked hard to put 4 kids through college". Now it's more like "My parents worked hard so that their 4 kids had choices". As Jay mentioned above, it will take time for society to make adjustments.

This Old House has been pumping the trades for several years. They always have a group of apprentices on their projects. Their program is called Generation Next.

I see the bigger problem being the huge melt offs that seem to be bigger and more frequent. Notice I said seem, I don’t have any hard data close at hand to prove or disprove that thought. Also on the anecdotal level, deep cold seems less common. And yes, I know we still get some good cold from time to time but -30s don’t happen much anymore. Growing up, it wasn’t uncommon for Canaan, VT to be the coldest spot in the country at least a few times each winter. It may be that there isn’t an observer there anymore or the location has changed but it doesn’t feel the same.

At least put a few grand into mini-splits. You’ll surely get that back when you sell.

Also, my father in law grew up on a farm in that area and kept a hunting camp there. I guess we actually still have a share. Anyway, it’s a good location. I just saw a nice cabin listed in that area for $275k.

Vermont has a stated goal of trying to develop what are called downtown cores but that's not even enough for some. Recently a group in Montpelier fought against a new hotel and parking garage and the developers finally gave up. The same thing has happened with new housing. If you can't build in a city, where can you?
