  1. I'm not familiar with the Maine issue but if I were to hazard a guess, at least some of it must have been driven by stories like this. There have been many instances of companies patenting seeds and then suing farmers who save seeds from crops they've grown for re-use. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2013/feb/12/monsanto-sues-farmers-seed-patents
  2. Pretty much the same scene here at my house. Lol
  3. And all we've seen is partly cloudy skies
  4. It isn't that simple though. Look at the list of people opposing the project, there are some strange bedfellows. Also, as I mentioned in a previous post, Hydro-Quebec isn't exactly an innocent, clean energy producer. Here is a link to the Natural Resources Council of Maine's take on how environmentally friendly Hydro-Quebec is. https://www.nrcm.org/news/hydro-quebec-offers-misleading-claims-powers-climate-impact/
  5. The article that Tuna linked seems like a pretty decent explanation of the conflicting views. The Conservation Law Foundation supports the project while the Sierra Club opposes it. The other thing is not everyone believes Hydro-Quebec is all that environmentally conscious. They've flooded millions of acres of forest that has released tons of carbon and methane into the atmosphere. The article points out that a bill was introduced a couple of years ago that would have required an independent assessment of any claimed impacts on climate change that was defeated after heavy lobbying by Central Maine Power. It's a pretty complex mix of parties opposed to the project.
  6. Hmmm, a couple of longtime weather people just retired from the local CBS and NBC affiliates. The CBS one is all set but maybe the NBC affiliate made him an offer that allowed him to move up?
  7. Will the notch be closed by morming?
  8. Now that I think about it, I actually think that is a MPM 39. That's how he avoided reaching 90. "Only hit 89.7, a cool summer day in GC!"
  9. Same here. Unfortunately that doesn't translate to 0 candy eaten
  10. 1.44” here since midnight and .45” yesterday. This is the type of storm that lends credence to the days and days meme.
  11. Yeah hearing about sun breaking out in other parts of NE is making me jealous.
  12. I think the Air BnB short term rentals have a detrimental effect too. Especially in resort adjacent areas.
  13. And you'd have a built in manny
  14. About 1.75” yesterday and today. The only complaint is have about my PWS app is that even though it keeps daily, weekly, monthly and yearly precip totals, it doesn’t let me look at individual days. I can’t go back to yesterday and see what the total was. It’s not the end of the world just a minor annoyance.
  15. Is it Paradise Valley in Underhill that always gets those big winds? That fits your west slope description.
  16. There is a hillside next to 89 just south of the Waterbury exit that looks like it is almost completely oak. I haven’t driven by for a few weeks but those trees seem to keep their leaves for months after everything else drops.
  17. Ineedsnow just chucked his Chromebook across the room in violent disagreement with you.
  18. Being prepared doesn’t necessarily mean everything was fixed immediately. Calling in help and having a plan is preparation too. You got your power back pretty quickly it seems. Especially after being hit with the equivalent of a cat 1
