  1. Same thing here...although its a tad warmer at 25. Are you expecting much out of the system tonight?
  2. Shaping up to be a pretty good storm out in the Boonies In the mountains, blizzard conditions are becoming likely for most areas along and west of the Allegheny Front. Very cold air and a deep moisture connection to the Great Lakes will set the stage for a potent snow squall event along the Allegheny Front. Forecast snow amounts between Wednesday night and Thursday morning are between 4 and 6 inches with potentially higher amounts up to around 9 inches along the western-facing slopes above 2500 feet. In most of the Alleghenies, winds likely gust well above 35-40 mph. With an air mass this cold, the snow/liquid ratios are going to be very high, leading to a fine, powdery snow. This paired with the aforementioned wind gusts could lead to whiteout conditions at times. Treacherous travel conditions are likely in the mountains Thursday morning. Even after snow ends, the blowing snow will make travel difficult at best through Thursday night.
  3. New seasonal low of 12.4 this morning. It's been snowing steadily for the last few hours; have probably a little over a half-inch as a result.
  4. Lowest so far this season at 12.7
  5. 1.7" the last 2 days. Temps never got above 27. Beautiful winter days (and Wisp opens Friday).
  6. They held lift training Saturday (11/30) for employees, which is one of the last steps prior to opening. Still an internal debate on exactly which day...at least as of yesterday.
  7. Yes, it was me. I have done 4 LES chases since 2022 and love it when I get the location right - but as this latest round shows, its not for the faint of heart. The experience for a snow lover like me being in the middle of a band is truly second to none. I went looking around the Tug for possible cabin locations this summer (ain't much up there) to get a more permanent fix. Your chase sounds absolutely epic. If another LES chase comes up in the future, I'd be there in a New York minute lol.
  8. That band just south of Watertown is epic - but its been frozen in place. Had it not been for the holiday, I'd be sitting in a Watertown Airbnb stewing until steam lifted the cranium off my bald head. The band will move north at some point, but not 70" worth. Very light snow here with about an inch in the last 24 hours. Was very festive decorating the tree yesterday. Cold at 16.5.
  9. I'd like to come up tomorrow morning from Maryland. I see where 90 is closed...is there a good site that you rely on to determine what is passable?would love to link up to the chat since this isn't used very frequently - would you PM me with the link? TY as I'd Ike to chase tomorrow
  10. Where did you stay? I'm likely heading up Saturday morning but unsure if I'll be able to make it. Might do an Erie chase but Tug looks way better.
  11. What a great dump in the area - the upslope rain continues here...man, if only. I'm going with 12" for my total. Are you here for the week? Friday looks to have some upslope snow which would be perfect since my Dad is coming up for Thanksgiving and will put up the tree.
  12. So far in MLP I'm estimating 10 inches and it's still coming down. Temp when I got back from Snowshoe was 25, it's now 29.7. Hoping to hold on for a few more hours and get to a foot. This is the second best storm since moving out here in Oct of '22. Models nailed it a week or more in advance.
  13. The wind was going to be pretty tough at Snowshoe so left early this morning. At least I had this to come home to .
  14. That was our first real squall and it was awesome. Wish I could post a video...I'm probably around 1.5" now. Very light but nearly constant snow since around 8 am. Plows are out - come on up!
  15. It’s funny you mention that because in the middle of the night I hear what sounded like a GE Turbofan jet engine power up and was like what in the ever-loving F is that: .
  16. Haha I'm always looking for a chase buddy. Made it to Snowshoe...let's see how this ends up. Definitely at the top of the mountain so putting my best foot forward on this one.
  17. Going to 'shoe might be a bit of overkill, but I've always wanted to go there and am a little worried about temps. Might be worrying over nothing but last two years living here taught me otherwise when it is a marginal setup. I had a blast last winter when I chased that big Sierra storm so this will produce some of the same conditions - but on a serious diet by comparison.
  18. Thanks for this - I looked before booking and this condo is at 4,638 feet with (supposedly) a decent view. I'm hoping the only view I see is a blur of swirling snow pasting the window
  19. I noticed that too but in the AFD, LWX mentions a secondary surge of cold air at the same time P&C brings temps up warm enough to rain, coinciding with what you mention w/the models...primary reason why I'm going to Snowshoe with the hope it doesn't hit freezing and turn to rain.
  20. Thank you! It's honestly not the best time to do this (have a dentist appt tomorrow morning, but teeth are replaceable and this storm will only happen once). @DDweatherman I go through Airbnb which has never disappointed me (I do this nonsense a lot). I'd rather have gone to somewhere around Canaan since it's much closer to home, but they wanted anywhere from $750-$1,100 for a 3 night stay which is ridiculous. Even with their bs fees, I'm only paying $370 for a top-of-mountain condo at Snowshoe which is much more reasonable.
  21. Pulled the trigger and got a place up at Snowshoe for tonight through Saturday. Hopefully lives up to its name
  22. I think the more elevation for this one, the better you'll do. I live in the area and have found that a community called Old Timberline in the Canaan Valley (close to Davis, WV) is the best when it comes to events like these. But, you wouldn't go wrong in Snowshoe either. I found one house available in Old Timberline on Airbnb although they are a bit pricey (everything in Davis is pricey though). At least the sun is useless this time of year so the marginal temps won't immediately turn any accumulation into a slushee (if we can get past the warm ground).
