September Discussion Thread: Bring the frost; kill the bugs.

Might have to look and see where the pants are? I think I’ve only worn shorts every day since like May. 18z tomorrow, this is chilly. -

Can you right click on a tab like you were going to mute the tab? What options do they give you? -

Lol I love the warm season too, just can’t stand window units. Quiet wall units like a mini-split is life changing. -

Oh I enjoyed summer, I just hate window units with a burning passion. Never would be any sadness in removing one of those from a window and opening it up fresh to the world lol. I can’t imagine being locked up for so many months with those things. But it’s a necessity. The darkness this time of year is definitely the worst part. -

Gotta start somewhere…at the picnic tables. “Given 850 mb temperatures dropping between 0 and -2 C late Wednesday, the threat for some very light mountain snow showers continues to look plausible but will likely be confined to the evening and overnight hours as temperatures will only be marginally conducive for the potential of light snow. No accumulation is expected given antecedent soil and ambient temperatures but it marks the change of seasons across the North Country.” -
Yeah get hot at the right time… or even get a couple players hot at the right time. Like Stanton single handily won that series. That’s all it takes in a best of 5. Part of me sees the Yankees having a tough 6 games left but if they do well against the Jays and Rays, they will have sky high confidence. If the Red Sox do well against the Orioles and Nats, it’s like ok fine but doesn’t mean much for confidence.

Yeah I’m with you. Found no redeeming value to today unless you like to have a reason to stay indoors. Today was the first real dark, overcast, rainy, chilly type day yet. Just never seemed to get bright out at all. -
What a bizarre season for both teams. Highs and lows. Started with two straight sweeps of the Yankees by the Red Sox… ended with two straight sweeps of the Red Sox by the Yankees. Season series 10-9 in favor of the Sox but basically dead nuts even. Entertaining year for sure between the two clubs.

Wow, upper 50s here and I’m trying not to turn the heat on. -
Yeah and the color seems more vibrant on these days with less light, more cloud cover. Can’t even drive through the center of Stowe right now, tour busses, yikes. I think after the cool shot later this week it’ll really accelerate. Maybe the lack of a hard frost/freeze late in the season will be good for foliage. They always say you want to avoid a hard freeze, best is cool but not frozen like this week should be.

Plenty of clouds and gradient over here this evening, not allowing for warmth to vacate properly. Suck in the low 50s here too. -

The season progression is fun to watch at the different spots. Sept 1st onward here was 70s after summer's back broke on that date (up here). Of 26 days this month, 20 of them have had highs in the 70s (perfect)... 4 highs in the 60s and 2 days managed to touch 80F on the nose. September high temp range so far has been 64F to 80F. Can't draw up any better September temps IMO, and it seems like that time may be arriving for you guys in SNE now. -

I got absolutely drenched about two hours ago hiking on the mountain… those little suckers packed a punch. Thing looked like nothing on radar but nope, still drying the pack and shoes out. MVL only had 0.04” but it felt like a quarter inch on the hill… though rain can be deceiving. I guess even a tenth is enough to thoroughly soak you if you just stand in it. 51F out now. -
For the next 3 weeks every conversation in the town of Stowe starts with “Is this peak foliage?!”

Yeah I don’t like any green but I also don’t want it orange-washed. I think there’s a period when it’s still red/yellow/orange but only conifers give a green color… that’s my peak. It’s great cause everyone has slightly different opinions on peak foliage and all are valid.

Some actual fall weather it seems to close out September. 50s by day and 30s by night from Tuesday through the end of the week. Confidence continues to increase for a period of below normal temps Weds into next weekend, associated with progged 850mb temps 3 to 5 STD below climo normals as pocket of cold air aloft with trof moves directly overhead. The combination of northerly flow, 850mb temps near 0C, and some moisture with cyclonic flow, I did lower daytime highs Weds thru Friday by 1 to 3 degrees from NBM. Progged 925mb to 850mb thermal profiles suggest highs lower 50s mtn towns to near 60F warmest valley cities, with l/m 40s mtn summits. Lows during this time frame are challenging due to potential clouds and northern flow as sfc high pres is displaced to our north and west, but still anticipate lows lower 30s to l/m 40s. -
All I can say is I'm glad I started the Saints defense in fantasy football... racking up points against the Pats in this one.

The 540dm line coming soon. That's a pretty nice cold pool, could get some graupel showers out of that. -
Still a lot of green but it's coming along.

Above normal, but cool and comfortable at the same time. Valley is faking the chill. -
I can't comment on it beyond that I worked with him on the zip pretty much since it’s beginning, he was an awesome guy and a veteran guide. I had talked to him right before his tour. Truly great guy and some boys lost a father… it’s been a very tough few days for the resort community.
