Impressive for the GFS to have surface temps so cold given that model's issues with 2-M. Even gets ice down to NE CT there on the second wave.

Probably ends up as a blizzard for SNE by the time this is all said and done. Everything seems to want to trend SE with the past like 4-5 systems. Even that run brings ORH County a half inch of ZR. The cold press is way south of the 850 lines.

It's interesting that in these smaller events I do feel like the mountain gets higher ratio snow and I think it's something that happens along the Spine. J.Spin gets more liquid on the whole but I do think we get lower ratio snow (say only 20:1 vs 40:1) and I noticed it again this morning on CoCoRAHS. When these little fluffers move through the Spine seems to really tap that snow growth and get huge fluffly flakes while in town they are still fluffy but not quite the same. Sometimes it seems like there isn't a huge difference in moisture, just higher ratio snow. But you can see the 0.03-0.04" water and then look at the snowfall differences. I tend to find that J.Spin difference at Mansfield too, where its not always just more moisture but that the flakes seem much larger and stack better. There was around 2" at the mountain by the end of the day today and it was pure air... had to be 40:1 northern stream fluffernutter stuff.

Can’t call it deep winter at all but the one redeeming value has been snow on the ground for the most part since like the 2nd week of November. 4” cumulative over past 48 hrs at home and only 6” total depth... but guess it’s white? River isn’t even frozen. Normally it’s just frozen with snow on it and animal tracks everywhere.

Some decent light snow today. About an inch on my car in 2-3 hrs at the ski area and still coming down steadily.

I know you know this, but many days that’s all you need for the wintry feel. Don’t hate on the snow showers.

You can be concerned for the planet and not be a hypocrite if you don’t jump all in on reducing your carbon footprint to zero my friend. It’s like if you are more concerned about gangs and drugs, it doesn’t make you a hypocrite if you don’t spend all your free time mentoring at-risk youth and serving at your local addiction clinic. Being concerned with something doesn’t mean you have to devote everything to that cause... you can be in favor of policy that helps the greater good. There’s just something about climate change that seems so touchy and gets folks all riled up.

Still snowing lightly. Been a good 30 hours of snowfall with this system, ha. About an inch every 8 hours or so. Since noon yesterday, the ASOS has reported -SN every observation except for 1-3am last night.

When the models had it, you said forget it. Then the models forgot it and now it’s coming. I love it, always entertaining.

It'll be rough, especially after a nice week of snow showers. A couple good rounds that might bring 4-8" to the ski areas this week just in time for the torch to come next weekend. Just gonna be one of those winters.

Pretty good upslope flow going on this morning. Moisture getting wrung out rather efficiently right now. Big wind blow flakes at the mountain.

Looks like fairly frequent rounds of snow showers at the least over the next couple of days. Fast active flow.

You take the small victories. Keeping consistent but low snow cover is this season’s one redeeming factor. As long as it looks like winter, we take in this horrible long wave pattern.

Feels like an ALB snowpack in early January... 6" of wet semi-frozen mashed potatoes and some new wet snow on top.

Wintry appeal at home at least.... freshen up the look despite a meager total that will end up under 2" most likely. Great vibe this evening up at the ski resort thanks to the light snowfall. People seem very happy when it snows during their vacation up north and it rains down south. It is very interesting to hear how many folks mention it isn't snowing where they are from. The Tippy psych analysis is that it probably fits the stereotype of snow up north and validates their decision?

And Loon is much further north.
