  1. Snowing here in Stowe. 2.5sm -SN at the ASOS. I’ll take 70F and sun over 33F and wet snow.
  2. Snowing out. Winter’s moving back in. Man am I jealous of 70F right now.
  3. Yeah we’ve got a lift down but the other major summit lifts are running, including Gondi. Visitation is on par with one of those -25C 850mb air masses that likes to settle in during holiday weeks haha.
  4. Yeah I mean it’s not pretty but Snowmaking snow is resilient, as seen by how long it lasts in the spring. Definitely applies to a place like MRG today though, which is essentially closed. Most spots will still have all their snowmaking runs open...and these thaws are exactly why the Northeast resorts rely so much on snowmaking.
  5. Looking back at that Jan 2008 thaw... holy shit. This is the Jay Peak COOP data... 3 straight days with maxes above 50F. Two days of 35< departures...a +39 day is crazy. Snow depth from 62” to 27”. Yikes that was a big thaw.
  6. This was no where close to Jan 96 or Jan 08 up here... we went from 8” to 1-2”, similar to Brian it’s that gray scale soggy last inch or two. January 08 went from like two feet of QPF rich snowpack to pretty much nothing. Longer duration torch but similar max temps near 60F. Definitely not ideal but probably not touching those torches of yore in terms of snow loss.
  7. What a gradient in the Hudson Valley this morning just north of ALB. 61F to 36F over an 8-10 mile stretch. Last night RUT dropped 21 degrees in 1 hour as the front moved through.
  8. That's an awesome set-up dude! Hockey Night in Canada type vibe.
  9. Torching aloft. Picnic tables are at 50F on Mansfield at 3,900ft (warmest temp of the day this hour).... and Whiteface in the Dacks is 46F at 4,800ft. Those temps with sunshine in June would yield 70s in the valleys. Those spots could pull a 45F departure lol.
  10. It is pouring up here. Yard is holding onto a few inches of snow but this won’t survive the night. Still good to air out the house... but what a hot rain. 52/50 type of stuff.
  11. If it’s gonna be warm, might as well take advantage of it. Great evening to air out the stale air in the house.
  12. We’ve had some warm Jan nights but the min will get washed out tomorrow prior to midnight. I think Jan 08 had a super torch that was also 60F up here for highs and an overnight of like 48F.
  13. That’s an above normal night up here in July lol.
  14. I never picture your little hollow getting above like 38F from Dec-Feb, ha. Where does 50F stand in your records?
  15. MPV set a daily record of 57F (old was 52F). BTV set a daily record of 59F (old 57F). SLK set daily record of 53F (old 52F).
  16. Man is it nice. Windy as hell but cracked 50F now!
  17. Most of that was untouched from this week’s snow... so they are turning in about 12-18” of consolidated powder. Plenty deep! We just finished a nice run of 19” in 5 days. Hunt the untracked and it skied like over a foot. But yeah, the speed at which these guys ski the woods is what makes photos. Fluffy snow and high rates of speed make that stuff explode.
  18. That's Mount Mansfield. It's why it's such a talked about mountain too. It's right in the view of BTV and associated suburbs. East side view today.
  19. The timing isn't all the dissimilar from up here. I think there's definitely something to the patterns that seem to bring several year stretches of more inland storms vs. true eastern coastal plain storms from like the ORH/Tolland Hills eastward. Each year can have variance but they do seem to come in clusters.
  20. Thanks Diane! Got some fresh pow turns in. Bluebird and beautiful. Can’t believe it’s all but a dream in two days.
  21. Yeah that’s awesome. Sounds a lot like here when we try to describe to people the random gradients. Could be advisory or warning snows at one place, then flurries at our Shaw’s Supermarket, then back to plowable snow in another two miles, etc. Stuff you don’t see in synoptic events. Makes you laugh when someone gets upset because 10 miles away got a bit more than them...you can see that within a town in every event up here.
  22. It’s so awesome when events like that hit the non-climo favored areas. Everyone is sort of numb to it when it’s JSpin, Alex or myself at the mountain.... but to get that there in central NH is awesome.
  23. Meso-scale is the best... I'm telling ya, the isolated smoke shows are awesome. Don't need any flashy model runs, just let it happen.
