The myth seems much more prevalent the lower in snowfall climo you go. Like no one in NNE ever talks about October snows mattering or not. Definitely just a low sample size voodoo thing for lower snow climo areas on the forums.

MWN hit at least 61F… October all-time high is 62F. It’s close.

BTV 86F. All-Time Hottest October temperature (at least back to 1882).

12:35pm today is 81F at MVL… yesterday 77F. 4 ahead up here. Its an absolute torch.

Long weekend punted for the peepers. Will be great color saturation in the low clouds and precip darkness, but as far as being outside to see it, this isn’t it.

Hot and foliage.

82F in the valley, and even record highs up on Mansfield. The warmth was in contrast with the foliage. It was summer vibes.

Ha I even hooked my wife on it. Never liked it cold at night for sleeping but with the mini split we just click the remote and start dumping outside 50s into the room. It’ll be like 53F in the room after midnight lol.

That map looks more realistic. Traveled to the Champlain Valley this evening and the foliage was lagging sharply from Waterbury onward to BTV. Lots of green. But it is coming. The color just enveloped Stowe from the N/NE… it will keep moving out into the north/central New England valleys, and then southeast in SNE toward the coast. Higher elevations first.

The Wasatch in Utah is such a snowy place. Love that we get a view into it these days. Live web cams and stake cams weren’t a thing back in the day. Had to wait for the RSN photo of the day. Resort Sports Network on TV at various resort towns filled the need for local and regional conditions info, weather, events, advertisements. There was no cellular and very limited internet (wired, dial-up)… so you had to get your info from a TV, snow phone recording, on a limited basis. It's coming along. Peak within the next 7 days. Need a good cloudy, darker day to really get the colors to pop. They always seem a bit washed out in full, bright sunshine. 76F today for the high, now 52F.

The leaves are on fire all the sudden. Approaching peak rapidly. No matter the year or weather… first 10 days of October is the time every year.

It’s hot. Already 65F at 1500ft. Today will torch. Valley has been lagging 10F behind though when they mix out it’s going up fast.

Foliage has been coming along.

Smokes been around for days in and out. Seems a bit cleaner here on NW winds but looking east this evening from here is a wall of smoke trapped under an inversion.

Yeah I don’t know what fake heat would be but was trying to describe the inverse of radiational cooling… when the elevated mountain valleys are warmer than say BTV or other spots. Like when the mountain valleys radiate to 800-850mb level temps and then mix back up through there in the afternoon.

Absolute torch in the fake temp valleys. BML and here at MVL with 75F. SLK with 73F at 1,600ft. Fake cold to fake heat.

What a damn day. 73/49 and sunny. This is how you run a Saturday.

That’s two-thirds of an inch more than up here, ha. Been a fairly nice month for being outdoors.
