  1. I'm at about a half inch already and it's coming down at a pretty good clip. Temp has been falling since it peaked around 5am @ 39° right before it started to change to snow. It's about to drop below 32 so it's just a matter of time before it gets ugly slick out there.
  2. 33/29/NNW3/SN Everything is getting plastered with snow now. It was soggy after 5 hours of rain and now the snow is sticking to every possible surface. It's gonna be all sortsa fun when it freezes up in a little while
  3. I think so. If I'm not mistaken that's when I got my dads Olds wagon stuck right in front of the high school entrance and had to be pushed out. I didn't drive to school again for a month
  4. We haven't had a good ol' 4 Corners Low come bowling across the country in too long. It sure would be nice to see one again.
  5. Still 35 and rain here but radar shows it's snow so I'm guessing it's getting colder upstairs and will push the warmth out soon.
  6. Look here https://www.abebooks.com/book-search/author/JEROME-S-THALER
  7. I don't think I've even hit 6". Maybe but it sure doesn't feel like it. Look up Jerome Thaler. He was from Yorktown and had the most comprehensive stats for the HV going back decades that I've ever seen. I used to buy USGS Topo maps from him because he had a collection better than most museums. I can't imagine he's still alive but maybe... @weathafella knew him too (hey buddy, haha).
  8. I'm well east of the river and have had snow on the ground since then too, I'm a bit under 3" now and don't think I've hit 6" yet for the year but it looks (sorta) wintery.
  9. Yeah right. All of these bits of energy moving through the cold, something of consequence should pop. I have a feeling that if it does it will be as the cold air is leaving our side of the planet.
  10. The consternation over the models is always entertaining. Look, ya got waves moving through a generally cold environment in January so there's a fair chance for a storm. Even with the players on the field tomorrow we probably won't be able to "see through" the Thursday morning storm until it's in progress so relax, have a beer and some pizza.
  11. If ya don't win big did ya really win? I appreciate the extremes as much (or more so) as the next guy but nickel and dime winters where we get a few inches at a time a few times a week end up with a more wintry appeal and a longer lasting snowpack.
  12. So that short period of flakeage and the melt/refreeze cycle have made things interesting to say the least. This stuff on the ground won't be going anywhere for a while now.
  13. It looks like we have some snow incoming. I know it was sorta forecasted but I wasn't feeling like wraparound would happen. My kid at school in Brockport said the snow is up to the first floor windows of her townhome.
  14. Whatever film I missed on the driveway is already freezing. Sketchy is the name of the game for a while now.
  15. ^ Great. When I was shoveling I'd toss loads of wet stuff to the sides and as the water drained out it ran back into the driveway because the ground is frozen. Driving tonight is going to be scary as water will be running off all the hillsides, ditches are full of snow and leaves, storm drains are too so that water will be in the roads and freezing up nicely I think I'm gonna go get a couple of bags of playground sand at Home Depot...
  16. It started as nice snow but within an hour had raindrops mixed in. The snow proceeded to get heavier, as did the mixed in rain and now sleet too, and I ended with between 4 and 5 inches before the flip to all sleet and rain. That lasted 15-20 minutes and then it turned to wind driven rain for a while. By sunrise it was 37-38* and drizzling, by 8 when I got out with the shovel it was downright miserable. Get out there and scrape this down to pavement because when it freezes up it's gonna suck if you haven't.
  17. I was somewhere between 4 and 5 inches when it flipped but it had been mixed sleet for quite some time before the flip and it was raining from the start. This is some of the heaviest crap we've had in years. There's water running under the slush on top of the ice layer so when you push the insulating layer of slush off it instantly turns to a sheet of ice before it starts melting. The plow pile could have sucked but I just pushed it across the street so the plow would push it down the hill. Now at least I got it down to pavement so it can be sanded and made passable after tonights freeze.
  18. I had about 5" of snow before it fully flipped to sleet. That added another .5 or so then rain for hours. This shit is outrageously heavy to shovel, especially the plow bank. Uggh
  19. I have about 5", tough to tell with the wind. It's still heavy snow but now it's also raining and sleeting hard too.
