The smoke sux Gonna be a long fire season... It's going to get worse too, CA has made it really difficult to do prescribed burns and fuel clearing due to Spotted Owl territory. This means all of the new growth from all the moisture the last few months will be ready to burn by midsummer. There are similar issues in places through all of the western states so there's going to be more fuel ready to burn than in previous years. Yay Looks like at my level on the hill it got to 35°, the top stayed above 39 and I found two 33° lows below me.

The deluges keep the reservoirs full enough that people don't realize how low the soil moisture is.

I'd be ok with it if 20 or so days a month were like this. Ok, maybe 5-8° higher but, yeah.

With overnight temps in the 40s it's kind of necessary, even 50s makes this fat old old body achy.

Over the last few days I've literally been in every zone in the state. As of Friday afternoon there are still large areas of the Southern Tier, WNY and the Adirondacks that are just making the turn from stick season to mosquito season. The early bloom and full on spring is really only over about 40% of the state.

The smoke plume from that fire is pretty cool from over here. The air quality sucks Is it really going to be gloomy for a few days with no significant precip unless a tstorm happens to roll over? Yuck.

I can think of a few times where School 5 had a snow day but Boardman didn't, couldn't give you dates because 40 years...

I saw 90+ on the dashboard a few times, 93 in Goldens Bridge around 5:30. It was mid 80s away from the water on Fire Island.

We went for a nice long walk up in Fahnestock along the AT and it's parched. Even north facing slopes that would usually be moist with small creeks running strong this time of year were all dry and loose. We went right back to last years surface dryness

I've pretty much given up on doing a garden this year. It's already dusty a few inches down and getting worse by the minute and as I found out a few times now, most plants don't like the water that comes out of our well. I think I'm just going to throw out a bunch of flower seeds and let the soil recover after the mess it turned into last year. Its awfully nice out there this morning, go out and do something!

34 here on the hill, 27-29 down by the river. There's a nice, thick frost coating on the cars.

I meant 2024 but thanks. Perfect. I can think of some cool places through that swath to watch an eclipse.
