  1. Oh heck yeah, I got another .07! The street is already drying up.
  2. Rumble, rumble, crack as it gets dark. Waiting on the rain.
  3. I guess it's a good thing I didn't get my hopes up for rain today.
  4. I was wondering what's going on. I drive through at least once a week and the forest looks more haggard in sections of Dutchess and Columbia than anywhere else in the entire region. There are places where it looks like March not June.
  5. I finally got an actual wet day - .62! After a ground softening .17 yesterday and the overnight fog this actually did some good. It's wet a few inches down now and I'm seeing explosive growth in the yard. The pokeweed has grown 2-3 feet in the past couple of days. Are we really gonna be grey and wet most of the next 5 days?
  6. Nice, steady rain falling. I had to just stand outside and listen for a while. It's been too long...
  7. Steady light rain (.04 so far) combined with the dense fog and .17 yesterday has it feeling very, very wet out there. I didn't miss this muggy stuff at all.
  8. So is it actually going to rain this time or is it gonna be another .02 kinda thing?
  9. Well, below 80 anyway. This kinda takes the beach out of the picture, 80 at least opens that up.
  10. Many times the zoning outside of town limits is more agreeable to alternative housing options, a lot of times there aren't many restrictions other than meeting basic building codes depending on the size of the property.
  11. Just hold that rain off until 11pm or so.
  12. Yes we do. No it isn't. Have you seen some of the reservoirs? Did you know that NY State is about to see it's worst strawberry harvest in decades? It's really dry... I'd rather not have a wet week but sometimes it's necessary.
  13. Make it hold off until at least 11pm Wednesday. Thanx.
  14. Yeah but the end result was a period of non winters other than the cold, which was ultimately just annoying, but did allow ski areas and snowmakers to learn how to make snow for us to play in/on. The one or maybe two storms a year were usually a letdown. The last 30 years have been spectacular so your perspective is kinda skewed. Maybe you should hook yourself up with a nice home snowmaking setup.
  15. Well will ya look at that, this thing has multiple lives. I think we should name it Felix.
  16. .47 for the week, the ground is dry about 1" down depending on soil type and just damp under the trees. I need at least another inch, 3 more would be even better. I'm starting to wonder what the well is gonna be looking like soon...
  17. Useless, that's what it was. The soil is powder dry 2" down in the hanging baskets and about an inch on the ground. I'm glad I didn't put all the effort into the garden like the last few years and also glad that so many of the plants I do have going are native or are at least N American woodland varieties. I just got back from another 800 mile loop through the Adirondacks and North Country then down through the Berkshires and Taconics. It's dry, many creeks are dry or nearly so until you get into the high country and they're still moist from snowmelt and mt rains. The North Country agricultural areas are parched, there were dust storms along the t-storm fronts and then it barely rained when the storms got to where I was. Another observation is the huge areas of mostly standing dead trees (all around upstate). I assume they're mostly ash and pines but it seems like a few other species are very weak and hardly have any leaves. NY is seeing a bunch of different effects of the new climate regime.
  18. The .4 that I've gotten over 2 days has made my plants very happy. I'd sure like to get some more but this looks like it's inching north and there's no round 2 for us.
  19. .25 in the first round. I drove through some crazy heavy showers in northern Dutchess on the Taconic a while ago. Finally cleaned the bugs off my grill and bumper That big bowling ball headed towards us is pretty cool on radar.
  20. .14. Meaningless. The ground is still powdery dry a half inch down and I'm sure the surface will be all powdery duff again by the end of the day. At least it rinsed the dust off some of the flowers and they look nice.
  21. Better but the AQI of ~170 here still sucks.
