  1. Yeah but since they're not selling much to the other side of the Pacific compared to the previous 20 years it's not going to hurt as much as it would have just two years ago. In fact there may be fewer mid and small size farms losing money on unsellable crops that sit and rot in a silo. They may not make as much as they need to but at least they won't lose as much as they could have had they gone to a full planting this early season.
  2. Where ya headed? They've gotten more rain than we have in most of the upstate areas so it doesn't take much for it to be very muggy. DON'T forget the bug spray, it's a special kind of year going on so far.
  3. If you want an on again off again challenging trail sort of close to home try the loop around the lake there. Some of it is just simple doubletrack work roads but there are super tight and techy narrow bits and some of the mud holes are impressive. As mentioned above, don't forget the tick spray. The views are worth the effort Nice but really warm and humid day going on out there. I hope that's not the theme of the summer.
  4. I was up in the 'Daks and Plattsburgh yesterday. It was cool and very early spring like up there, above ~1k it's just turning into spring now. The trees are just leafing out and from all the rain everything is soggy(er than here). When we finished tiding yesterday in Ausable Chasm area the storm rolling off the mountains were inspiring, deep scuds dropping everywhere and they were black as night and the outflow front was impressive. Good Stuff! Did it rain down here yesterday? What about earlier today, by the time I got home around 7 it was nice out. @Juliancolton did you get rain this afternoon? I rode at Lake Tagkhanic State Park and it was dry while riding but radar looks like it got wet after I left there. BTW if you get to check out the trails there do it, it's a nice long loop around the lake with some interesting spots and conditions along the way. Bring tick spray
  5. No wind and barely a shower here. For a change it's LI gettin' it not us outsiders
  6. What's the current water temp at Jones Beach? When and where? Looks mostly south and maybe west of the city to me.
  7. First round fizzled so what's the ETA for more activity this afternoon here in the LHV?
  8. Looks like those showers that were going to ruin the afternoon aren't going to be a factor
  9. Well, we got 25 hours into the month. That's a pretty good stretch without rain.
  10. 48 days with at least a trace since 4/1. Soggy... I lost track of that stat but I think I had the same 4 dry days in April. 22 of 30 in April and 26 of 31 in May with at least a trace. It's those darned trees. Cut 'em all down
  11. ^^ I was driving south on I81 towards Binghamton towards the end of the day yesterday and coming down the hill you get a pretty good view south towards PA. The weather looked ominous and there was a lot of lightning, it made me wonder if s**t was going down, apparently so. I didn't see any severe but you could tell that the potential was there all the way from Rochester down. It rained continuously almost the entire way. Made for a very long and tiring drive.
  12. 26! Another superb bug year The mold and mildew is pretty impressive too.
  13. Holy heavy rain Batman! I don't often get woken up by rain but geez that was really something.
  14. Boy, parts of Maine are getting hammered this afternoon. Look at that radar
  15. I dunno about that .2" in the park. I was a half mile west of the station and it poured, way more than .2. If it's under dense trees that would explain it, kind of like all of the other wrong readings we've been seeing from there for a while now.
  16. I gave up on nearly all organized sports years ago. I barely pay attention to the pro levels of the sports I do partake in. I enjoy watching pro tennis, play golf but get bored watching it and sometimes I'll watch a bike race but more to see the area they're in than because I give a hoot about the race. Competitive skiing is fun to watch but most other winter sports bore me. Basically I like the individual sports and team sports are annoying. Not much rain here, the ground is pretty much dry under the trees.
  17. I just got home from the city and there was no visible damage along the West Side Hwy, Saw Mill, Taconic or Rt 100 through northern Westchester. It did rain super hard in the city and there was a lot of water on the ground for about a half hour but nothing severe.
  18. Heheh I'm on B'way between 78-79 and you're headed to my town. What time are we thinking this afternoons rain will get to the city? We have a bun h of stuff out here at the street fair we have a booth at.
  19. Yup high 60's-70 are just about perfect for a ride so that's what I did Unfortunately we chose a place that got hammered by those tornadoes last year and it was still a mess of downed trees and badly overgrown trails I assume because they're blocked further up and not being used much anymore. I'm going to have to apply for permission to go in and do some cleanup work, these are trails I helped build ~20 years ago when nobody around here rode mt bikes yet.
  20. Was a bust up this way. It got grey and windy but only drizzled. I got a lot more rain from the pre sunrise storms that rolled through.
  21. True but it still goes down as a rain day in the total count and it keeps soil moisture up. This month has been weird though as we've had 19 days with rain but the ground surface has mostly dried out. The wind has helped a lot and the trees leafing out seem to have sucked up a lot more than I thought they would a month ago. Trail.comditions are awesome around the area right now.
  22. So I'm at 19 or 20 out of 23 days so far this month have been wet at some point in the 24 hour period and April was 22 of 30. I'm really tired of it but on the upside the forest has really stabilized and for the most part there is very little mud out there. The ground has this wonderful resilience to it and the trails are in fine shape which makes the mountain biker in me very happy. @Hitman we need to coordinate and ride some time soon, me and my e-mtb are enjoying the heck out of our time together in the woods.
  23. We had tornadoes and insane straight line winds just over a year ago. The damage is still evident all around the area. I'd rather not go through that again.
  24. Sun is coming out here through partly/mostly cloudy skies and the wind is coming up. Sounds like things are moving around and we'll see some storms later. I hope not but that's what I expect to happen.
