Yup, I grilled last night and probably will again tomorrow. It's kinda nice out there right now and looking like it's just gonna get better. What should today's outdoor activity be?

It's definitely not what it's supposed to be like around here. Ah well, enjoy the low heating bills.

I think I'm still at or under 10". It almost felt like winter for a few weeks there, a few days sure did, but it really doesn't feel any different than November or March.

Well that was the shortest winter in a while. The forest is starting to wake up with new greenery and even some flowers popping. Here's an odd observation - When the early month cold snapped last month most of the ponds and reservoirs had little to no ice other than in shallow coves but over the last 2 weeks that ice has expanded and in a lot of cases is nearly complete on the more sheltered ponds. This ice growth happened while we stayed above freezing for 8 days! I'll be curious to see how the warmth and rain today and tomorrow affects it but the last one had no effect at all, the ice kept growing.

Pretty cool vis sat loop this afternoon. That SW>NE boundary is fun to watch. It kinda feels like it wants to snow some more, the clouds have lowered and thickened and it just has that feel to it. Who wants to go for a mt bike ride tomorrow?

It did. Nice to start the month/year/decade with flakes flying.

I'm wondering if that blob of light snow moving through the Catskills is going to hold together long enough to make it here.

I guess I missed on the sarcasm. The wind there is terrible. I don't remember it being such a problem before that chair though but my memory may be clouded by rose colored lenses I'm saying, in general, I really miss surface lifts. You could always stay out skiing when they were everywhere, chairs also used to be much lower and below the top of the tree line so they could keep running longer. Just look at the phenomenal run the red chair had at Magic, that sucker hardly ever closed.

When there's wind? Yeah... I love t-bars and pretty much all surface lifts except rope tows.

One thing that really stands out to me is how few times there were more than one such storms in any particular year. It happened more in the last 18 years than the previous hundred.

I could almost see it if the bay was frozen and the ocean slushed over like last year. A sand bar that holds no heat at all would actually become a heat sink a few feet above sea level.

Well, shoot. My wife and I have been debating whether or not to commit to a 2 day outdoor event (in the hills of Dutchess County) on 11/3-4 to kick off holiday sales for her new small business. I'm not comfortable pre-paying for a spot that may be cold and wet if this end of the month scenario plays out to the cold side which appears to be the consensus at the moment.

Yeah there can be significant differences in max depth and regular clearing amounts. Like was mentioned in that writeup, 30" was out of line.

That 65 degree Xmas Eve a few years ago was wonderful. Mountain biking in shorts and t-shirts that night was something I'll never forget. There was a whole bunch of riders out hootin' and hollerin' and just having a big old time like it was mid summer. I wouldn't mind another one like that

Very few of the old clubs were as successful much later than that either. At that point small shows had transitioned to theaters rather than clubs but there was still a strong bar band scene and very occasionally the bigger bands would show up for those bar shows.

I remember that well, my neighbor didn't stop raving about it for days afterwards. That was a year or so before I started going there because they didn't like my fake id I remember that too. I also remember some of the incredible shows the club in Island Park used to get when we first moved to O'side in 1970. Most of the really great stuff, The Doors, Grateful Dead was slightly before that but until ~73 that place killed it. She used to live in Rockville Center right at the edge of the RVC Country Club. Nice house

Oh man I saw some great stuff at Malibu. We used to walk in from the beach side and half the time never got asked for money. The Ramones and so many others... DSO is great. I used to see Jeff in small bars around LI over 30 years ago. 90.7 is still good but without Pete and Vin it's just not the same place it used to be.
