  1. Ive heard that a +qbo with higher solar promotes HLB. Not every time, but most times. Im hopeful we will see one decent winter storm. Also, the NPO is forecasted to be negative most of the winter on the euro. If true, will it matter if the nao and ao are negative this winter?
  2. I hardly ever post in these forums, but I thought this was interesting.
  3. Jax, you seem pretty smart with weather stuff. I found this image interesting. What are your thoughts?
  4. This niño looks to be crazy strong. Nobody denying that. The key if we get cold will be if the niño stays east based. If it does, it will be more difficult to see cold weather compared to central based or east central based imo. Only take one winter storm to make a season. Still way out there but important nonetheless
  5. If we can get any cold air, those images would verify imo this winter
  6. Im wondering if the pdo stays negative will it make a difference or do we want to see it positive for the winter to have a better chance at colder outcomes? Just a question
  7. Ray, good job with the analysis. Like always, hoping things shift that will favor a colder outcome for east of the rockies. Amo and Pdo could be very important.
  8. If we can get a +pdo and some semblance of a -amo, we may be in good shape this winter
  9. Its too far out to know anything. It should be cooler due to clouds and rain. Always fun to speculate. 2015-16 was +qbo east-central based.
  10. Hello everyone. Half the year is over. Here's hoping we can get one decent winter storm this winter. Its always fun to track them but its always about timing
  11. Im cautiously optimistic that we can get one decent winter storm this upcoming winter. Should have an active southern branch and hopefully we have enough cold air. I live in west tennessee and typically we get one event and the occasional 2 events. All about timing
  12. It would be nice. We didn't do well in west tennessee. We did good with the winter storm, but that was it. No mini events or even flurries. I got sad when the heavy snow shifted north with that event in January lol. What's interesting is in January 2010, we had a big winter storm that went west to east and stayed suppressed with alot less blocking and this past one shifted north.
  13. Imo, if we get a +pdo and -amo, we should see colder winters more often. We are due for that soon I believe.
  14. I give the winter a B- because we did get a significant winter storm end of last month. Ridge was too far east out west. In my area, we got glancing blows of cold air except for end of January where we had a solid week of cold. We typically get 1 winter storm, but occasionally its twice a winter.
  15. 168hrs out, the gfs was showing a monster storm close to the BM, which looks to verify but the euro wasn't at that time. Its just going to get going north and east of DC imo. Location matters most of the time.
  16. Icon is a conservative model, especially with snow from what I've gathered and since its showing this, watch out!
  17. You would have thought the gefs would have shifted way east but didn't unless the gefs sucks in general also lol
  18. If the gefs still looks good, then gfs has some merit, albeit not as strong as depicted.
  19. I don't see anymore snow/ice if the ao/epo don't trend negative imo
  20. Im still hopeful we can get a March snow event. We have had our biggest snows ever in March in our area.
  21. Imo, its a brief pna spike. Always about timing, but this time its a little bit more tricky
  22. Without the euro on board, probably not happening. Still hopeful we have one last chance in March.
  23. Where yall are, winter can last a long time since higher elevations help. We don't have that here. Mid March is typically the limit for us.
  24. I personally would like one more opportunity here, mainly snow. It was a decent winter event a few weeks ago. Im glad it was mainly snow/sleet. Imo, we would probably want to see the epo trend negative before we had a realistic chance. Or a -ao. West tennessee avoided the real cold weather this winter, as compared to east of here. It will be interesting with el niño next winter and a +qbo with high solar.
