  1. From reddit https://medicalxpress.com/news/2020-05-scientific-team-unique-mutation-coronavirus.html "Now, using a pool of 382 nasal swab samples obtained from possible COVID-19 cases in Arizona, Lim's team has identified a SARS-CoV-2 mutation that had never been found before—where 81 of the letters have vanished, permanently deleted from the genome. "One of the reasons why this mutation is of interest is because it mirrors a large deletion that arose in the 2003 SARS outbreak," said Lim, an assistant professor at ASU's Biodesign Institute. During the middle and late phases of the SARS epidemic, SARS-CoV accumulated mutations that attenuated the virus. Scientists believe that a weakened virus that causes less severe disease may have a selective advantage if it is able to spread efficiently through populations by people who are infected unknowingly." The researchers sequenced the genome of a number of COVID19 viruses from a series of infected patients from Singapore. They found that the viral genome had a large deletion that was also witnessed in past epidemics of related viruses (MERS, SARS), especially later in the epidemic. The form with the deletion was less infective and has been attributed to the dying out of these past epidemics. In other words, COVID19 seems to be following the same evolutionary trajectory. https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.03.11.987222v1.full.pdf The researchers sequenced the genome of a number of COVID19 viruses from a series of infected patients from Singapore. 2. How many work there? I find it interesting that BIW with 3000+ employees had ONE (maybe 2) POS case last month and were wanting to shut down and haven't heard a peep since. Somonee on FB said a lot of employees were staying home, but I thought they were required to be there.
  3. i need a cut bad, but supercuts still not open up here. odd cause their national site suggests they are. Barber shops are open though
  4. DIT should chime in soon and say i told ya so. Weekend lag ya know

  6. why is he worried. he is the one that keeps saying they will open the spigot a little at a time. If he's talking about other states then fine, but why worry about NYS if he adheres to his own policy?
  7. They don't seem to care
  8. Should they be allowed to go to the market, use the gas pump, get a haircut? Another words, should they stay at their camp/house with all the provisions they need for 14 days? I would say yes, but from what I've seen up here last two wknds, it's an astounding NO in that they're doing all of those things and more.
  9. Huh? ME is the oldest state in the Union at 44.9yo and without looking, income is pretty low. Disregard, I see you've been told by others
  10. I still say any mask is better then nothing in acting as a physical barrier to prevent/reduce virus intake.
  11. Yes but that assumes the virus is airborne as a stand-alone particle. I think this was demonstrated by aerosolization studies, but in practice, I think the virus is coupled to smaller, saliva droplets that are probably larger then the N95 pore size. Any mask other then N95, then the % retention and pass through will of course be higher
  12. I keep hearing this and question it. Why does the mask care which direction droplets/virus are coming from?
  13. I'm still wondering where Fauci is and why he isn't ramping the numbers back up. Remember in late March it was 100-240K deaths, then by mid-Apr, Fauci said 60K. Of course I was hoping for 60K or less, but now we're going up again and no govt official addresses it? I suppose there isn't much to say other then they were right, then wrong, now maybe right or wrong
  14. Enjoyed a mouthful out on the bike. They are out in force.
  15. Lol, no autocorrect
  16. At the time, I wasn't referring to asymptomatic spread, but more about how many early season deaths were written off as flu when they could have been covid.
  17. Did i miss an article. Link?
  18. I'll keep wearing mine regardless of occupation
  19. Fun while it lasted
  20. Yeah was just saying to my wife he hasn't been seen much
  21. Lots of FB posts about this one. It's getting old reading the same back and forth posts, both for and against re-opening. Regardless if someone is a D or R, everyone has an opinion and nobody should think their opinion matters more than the next person. I like the science going on with Covid, the rest I can do without.
  22. which one? Feel free to PM
