Just wondering how many people tend to miss the 'old' days for being a weather weenie. There were not model runs every hour but rather a few not as accurate models every 12 hours. There was a lot more surprises (both ways / good and bad). The 'mystery', for lack of better word, these days are gone. Sure today we get over performers and busts but these are a lot more localized then area wide. Honestly, with today's models we have seen those outcomes modeled at some point during 3 days leading up to the event. So was it really an over performer or bust as you had seen that outcome was modeled. Now I will say it is great to have today’s models with the many wonderful advancements. As a weather weenie that began in the mid-70s and 80s, there are times I really miss the days of going bed with a 1" or less forecast only to wake up to 8-12" snow event. Likewise, a T-storm waking me up at 2 AM when nothing was ever in the forecast. Of course there were some big bust too there were very depressing. Note: To be clear I talking about events once we get within 3 days and not the future casting of models beyond 3 days.

Summer 2022 weather => At least I did chase one storm (really the only one all summer). I was right there in the path of the Fenton Lake tornado. Had a tree go down right in front of me. To bad it was night and I couldn't get a good look at the tornado but I was right there.

Drought!! Starting to look like a desert out there.

Spring 2022 Medium/Long Range Discussion
Lightning replied to Chicago Storm's topic in Lakes/Ohio Valley
Thankfully it looks like we are finally going to get out of the these miserable temps in the 40s & 50s. I will agree it has been a long time since Southern Lower MI (at least north of Detroit) has had a spring worth remembering (t-storm wise at least). I used to look really forward to April and May for a few big time storms (especially the beginning of some fun the nocturnal events) . Yes many events did stay south and west which is expected especially in April (not like I expect to be the bullseye) but lately there does seem to be a void here in the springs less a few renegade storms like we have had this year. Hopefully later May into June can get us going this year (mid-June into October last year IMBY was the best T-storms I have seen in years)!! -
It is due to Lake Huron. Happen when I lived in the Keweenaw. Also to my parents near Allegan MI.

Especially April. I just spent last week south of Asheville NC. Everyday had sun, even the day it rained ended sunny. 60s & 70s. It was great hiking and biking weather. Come back here to rain and snow . At least today will be nice, sunny and 50s!!

Good 4" here. Totally wasn't expecting 4" of snow out of this.

1/6" of ZR with 1/6" of PL mixed so far here.

Looks like a lot of potential. Maybe we can shake that boring March wx syndrome we have had in recent years.

Mud month is where we are right now here. It has been horrible the past week. We still have many area of snow and ice (plus all the snow mounds). I live on dirt roads and this has been one extremely muddy week. Looking forward to the 60 degrees expected late Saturday and into Sunday to do it's best to melt most of it away!!

When I lived in the Keweenaw March was such a great cross country ski month. I considered March a full winter month too. It was April when I was done with winter. You would start losing all the snow and then that April some would come and put 1/2 of it back on the ground. I recall May10th, 1990 snow that cancelled Summer classes at NMU (first time ever NMU cancelled summer classes due to snow).

Wish I planned a Marquette ski trip. I am visiting Nubs Nob. Thankfully all snow here but nothing like what you got!! Enjoy ... I too like to spend hours just being out in the snow like you are saying

And now they decide to upgrade the area to a warning ...

Just Awesome!!!

Here is a webcam at the ski hill just north of Washburn: https://www.mtashwabay.org/webcam.html

Radar makes me think Washburn could rival Tug Hill type results!! I have been watching it on and off all day!!
-
Yeah it will be interesting to see the totals at Washburn area as some models have that band there for several hours!! Wish I could drive there right now

That is still a very cool event to get that much!! It actually happened twice when I was at Tech. Both ~2 hours long and both ended at 14". 1st one was in the middle of the night so I mostly missed it (I don't really count that one much). 2nd time was in the evening around 7-9. It was crazy as I took a nice long walk during it. The roads were basically at a stand still as I was walking faster than any vehicle moving on the road.
