  1. Is it just me or is dry air getting sucked in? Also what’s up with the breaks in the infrared through NC? Is the front tearing it up?

  3. Bust here in Wilmington, Just under 1/8in mix of ice and sleet combined. Barely coming down now. No precipitation at all fell from 1 pm till 6 pm. Roads were dry, and so was my roof. Temp has been steady at 29.5 since 6pm.
  4. My yard is 60% gone. We just got back from being out of town for a week...neighbor was to water it. They didn't. AAARRGGG
  5. Thank you so much....he is a pretty amazing guy to talk with. He is going to Maine for the summer to spend time with his brother who is not well. I told him and he is going to write about all the storms he can remember. It would be an amazing thing to read for us locals.
  6. My neighbor is a living legend... He was born here in Wilmington NC in 1940. He was 14 when Hazel hit and lost his sister, and well he has lots of stories to tell. Some are down right scary. But he swears up and down the last 10 years there has been more tropical events than ever before. I am trying to find for him a complete list of all tropical storms and hurricanes to have hit Wilmington NC since his birth. Can anyone point me in the right direction. Thanks
  7. I had the perfect yard 3 years ago... Then Florence hit. I think the amount of salt in the rain screwed the soil. Now I have weeds and bald spots.... I have no clue what to do. My grass was centipede. Everyones yards look the same except those who have put down new sod. I can't afford that. Any ideas?
  8. My water bill is going to be high next month. It's been very dry here.... Summer could be bad.
  9. Would anyone else be interested in a sub forum for wildfires and the such like the tropical forum? Could be helpful and maybe save lives. Just an idea.
  10. Local Meteorologist said the long term models are showing a possible system 12 days out forming off the east coast of GA and taking a possible path similar to Bertha. I can’t find anything like that. Or was he smoking something? Thanks for any insight.
  11. We are very dry here in Wilmington, only at 10.94 inches for the year. We should be at 17 inches by now. We have gotten 1 inch in the last 2 months. Goodbye lawn.
  12. 41.7 and moderate rain. Not very windy here, yet.
  13. Wondering if ILM will get enough rain to break 100 inches of rain for the year. It’s at 95.82 right now.
  14. We are at 60 feet above sea level. Our neighborhood is built on the highest point in our county. Calling it a night. See you all tomorrow.
  15. Leland NC here. 4.5 miles west of Wilmington. I think we are screwed. Riding it out. Half my neighbors are gone the other half are sticking around. But with this latest update I am doubting staying.
  16. Really???? My neighborhood had a prep meeting. Many are northern people who have transplanted from NY and such. None of them are taking this seriously. And the HOA head said have only 2-3 days of supply. I stopped the meeting. I pulled up this site and showed people what could happen. I was told to leave and stop making people panic. SMH. We are right next to ILM. Only 4 people listened to me. We went to the store and many people are saying it’s no big deal. Not gonna do anything blah blah blah. Not good.
  17. Thank you for posting this. My son (14) has in the last year really has got into weather and wants to be a meteorologist very badly. He will spent hours looking up past weather events and studying storm tracks and why they did what they did. What would be his best coarse for getting a jump on things, and what class's should he in high school (Next year) be his main focus? He is a very smart kid. Luckily he loves research, history, and math. Thanks for any advice.

  19. Yeah it grows pretty well here. Our whole neighborhood is centipede, Sandy soil, and lots of rain. Only 15 miles from the coast. Went ahead and got a bag of centipede seed and fertilizer this morning.... gonna mow the yard short, rake it, and spread both tomorrow. Then water it each day for a week or so. Should be good for the summer.
