    To be fair, +8 months are statistically somewhat easier to get during the cold season than they are during the warm season. I wouldn’t go as far as to predict a +8 December, but the signs that December will be disappointing are really starting to add up. Nearly every GFS run has 60s imby at some point, and I imagine it’s the same or worse at MDT.

    In Warren at the moment and enjoying some mood flakes with a couple inches on the ground from yesterday and a couple more inches coming tomorrow. No idea back home.

    About 20 or so. It’s not terribly uncommon.

    There have only been 4 Marches without even a trace of snow at MDT, and the other 3 all featured measurable snow in Nov. However, it looks like MDT is staring down the barrel of a second consecutive year without measurable snow in March or November (2020 had a trace in both).

    March shutout and Nov shutout in the same year? Wonder if that’s happened before…

    Looking almost certain that we’ve clinched a negative temp departure for November, we’re at -1.4 through 11/22 and should be mostly below normal the rest of the month. 4th time in the past 5 Novembers that has happened. Also, today marks 5 months since the last day that we officially had a double digit negative daily temp departure.

    Agreed, nearly every run has some degree of warmth in PA at some point during that period. Not ready to throw in the towel on winter before it even starts, but it seems it’ll be an uphill battle to get a good or even average season.

    Lot of time to work out the details. 18z 12/7 temp for me went from 21 on the 0z run to 69 on the 6z run.

    From someone who experienced the warm front yesterday, we went from a low of 33 to being in the mid-60s at 11am.

    60s and 70s have no appeal for me unless the normal high is in the 80s.

    That’s a date with fairly soft records in PA (66 at PIT, 67 at MDT). Most of the surrounding days have hit 70.

    That’s the extreme, but that day has been hot on several GFS runs now.

    Looks like PIT was able to sneak in its first measurable snowfall yesterday (0.3”).

    If there’s even a peek of sunshine in the clouds, even if it’s Christmas and it’s 25 degrees, you can forget about any accumulation hanging around.

    I don’t know if we can blame sun angle a little over a month from the solstice.

    Probably not a disaster when they weren’t really forecasting much accumulation anyway. Would guess the airport got its 0.3” between 4 and 5 when the temperature hovered between 32-33 and it was still snowing.

    Think they got a little overzealous. They were carrying a rain forecast for Sunday afternoon a few days out, then backed it to rain/snow. But with their AM update yesterday, they went all snow. When rates were good here, it fell as mostly snow, but that wasn’t the case in the city. It looks like there’s actually a 0.3 on the books for PIT. If I kept records, I’d be recording a T imby.

    It was always going to be a marginal event for p-type, and no one in their right mind was expecting any daytime accumulations, but the NWS made the decision to suddenly go with all snow in the grids for most of Allegheny County this morning after carrying a rain/snow mix in all of its prior forecast packages. That was a bold move and I’d say it busted.
