  1. My wood stove is going full blast right now . Unfortunately so is my heat pump. Just can't win.
  2. I won't lie, I've heard a few "Stoooorrrmmmtracker" moans in the night. Really hurts my feelings but I understand, a Midwestern boy can only offer so much.
  3. Hey my wife just fired a CEO last week. Thought you'd like to know. She kicked some dude out and is replacing with a woman as we speak.
  4. No beef, just ribbing you. I love the word capitulate, any chance to use it I take it. Didn't mean to cause any upset.
  5. I'll say 30 hail Marys for your soul tonight Tezeta.
  6. Wait are you in Howell, MI? I grew up in Novi. Our CC and Track teams generally kicked your guy's ass. Sorry. I'm heading back up there for a wedding in January. I hope it's cold and snowy.
  7. You ever play that videogame Lemmings around y2k?
  8. Hey didn't you have a blowout last winter and storm off at some point and have to come back and capitulate? Or was that the year before?
  9. Discob down here in Huntingtown, 44F and heavy rain. Pretty miserable but no wind and it's not all that cold so I guess it could be worse. Got the wood stove cranking.
  10. Oh well, seen worse. Number one rule of setting up camp on the mountain....whatever you do, don't let go of your sleeping bag until it's in the tent. And thus the trip endith... ETA, talked to my wife....now we're gonna leave at 4am based on your Intel. Thank you!!!!

  12. Gonna be tight. If we leave at 5am and traffic on the beltway isn't a mess then we will be on top of the mtn at 9am. 20mins to set up the tent...depends on which model I'm hugging. Windy and 30F is a lot easier than windy and 10F so we'll see... Be sure as long as I have cell service there'll be updates lol.
  13. We run a small wood stove inside this particular tent and as long as you keep on top of it I'd say a good 30F warmer than ambient can be expected. In this particular case the biggest concern will be keeping the tent standing in the wind. We will be using 18" rebar stakes and also lasso the upwind guy lines to large fieldstone that is all over the area. And if worse comes to worse we hop in the truck and head home! One benefit vs real mountaineering....
  14. Woohoo, weather throwdowns. Has the southeast ridge been sighted yet? I'll be looking out yonder from the mountain top to see if I can spot it OTH through the blizzard.
  15. To be fair we have about $10k worth of extreme cold weather mountaineering equipment. Descended mount rainier at -20F ambient with thunder snow and lightning BELOW us on the way down. This is downright luxury compared to that lol. Unlike mountaineering...in this case if it gets too gnarly we can just get in the truck and drive home. The current non-mountaineering benchmark we had was 4 days/3 nights snowshoe backpacking at the Dolly Sods where the temp never got above zero the entire trip. This ain't our first rodeo.
  16. Leaving at 5am tomorrow morning to get a jump on the weather. Hoping to get the tent up before the cold air slams through which looks to be around 11am-12pm. WSW says wind chills of -35F, it's gonna be an epic campout. One of our game cams transmitted a pic this morning that looked like maybe 4" on the ground already. We're going to try for three nights. Really it depends on how well the dog can handle it.
  17. Let the record show who the true enthusiasts and weenies are. When the rubber meets the road the enthusiasts are out becoming one with the elements vs. weenies riding each run of the model suites from the comfort of their living room hearths.
  18. Like I said, same with insomnia, the harder you try the less likely it is to happen. You have to let go your desires and then you will be rewarded. I'm still trackin' the SER though.
  19. WSW says 4-6" snow w/ 1/4" of ice. Low of 1F on Friday night and a high of 5F on Saturday. Wind chills -25F. Our campsite is right on top of the ridge above 3k ft so I expect we'll be on the high end of snow and wind, and low end of temps. Gonna spend a lot of time in the sleeping bags I expect.
