85 then down to 36 the next day. Eww.
-
Not sure anyone could predict some areas (detroit) could have just as many severe watches as winter storm watches djf. Only recall maybe one with the Jan 9-11 event but think maybe southern areas of the metro didn't even get a wsw with that event.

Josh, whats the record for most consecutive days in february above 50 in detroit? I'd ask 45 but I'd imagine its harder to get stats that way. Obviously warm spells can happen in winter here and it seems most of the time lately they've happened in January. February's have been rocking around here winter wise in recent years and just curious. Looks like atleast 4 in a row starting Sunday. Thanks. Also looks like there's potentially 8+ days straight of atleast 50 starting next weekend as we head in march. Atleast 10 degrees above avg for early march (40°).

The lack of snows for toronto is similar to detroits, location. It's hard enough to get a low pressure to track in a favorable spot , just west of the apps. When you do, a large number of them are prone to miller b's, losing energy to a coastal.

Winter 2023/24 Medium/Long Range Discussion
Stevo6899 replied to Chicago Storm's topic in Lakes/Ohio Valley
I agree and I am losing interest in snow as i close in on 40, thus why I just want that big one at this point. I love the heat and always enjoy a heat wave. When I was young and didn't own a home, I really enjoyed severe weather and welcomed it. Nowadays not so much. I'd venture to guess we see more severe threats than snow threats in the coming weeks in and around the lakes and lower midwest. Days like yesterday are great for those with aches and pains. It's amazing how great the warmer weather makes you feel mentally and physically. -

No one cares about big dogs? We're all weather weenies and care about snow otherwise we wouldn't be on here. I didn't realize chicago was aided that much by the lake with GHD1. Regardless you'll come up with an excuse for why it happens everywhere else, EC, Missouri, Minneapolis, upper midwest. We'll agree to disagree and move on because there's so much going on weather wise we don't want to clutter up this thread. Reached 60 here today with plenty of sun. Looks to be flirting with 50's and 60's most of next week too with only one day in the 30's. I guess this is the next best thing if we aren't gonna get snow with nothing close to accumulating snow on any part of the models. Obviously long ways to go but if we were gonna go a March without a legit snow, this looks like the best chance. -

Yea no stats or facts you have stated disapproves my "dramatizations" of our big dog futility. -

Again wanting a big dog isn't unrealistic expectations. I don't expect them every year. It's like you, Josh, or anyone saying we can get good (6+) snowstorms in march. Sure it can happen but unlikely, especially this winter. -

Sour? What do I have to be sour about other than our lack of big dogs, which nothing you or Josh have stated proves me wrong. We do get some of our biggest snows in march but I'm ready for warmth once march rolls in. -

Hmm I wonder who that one folk is that's gonna come along.... -
All smartassness aside, the point is the lakes overall werent the reason for the big dog totals for that event, even into most of illinois. I don't know why you and Josh keep pushing back on this topic. For reasons already stated, this area outside of the snow belts is missing that big dog, end of discussion. It didn't bother me as much in recent years because ive been a snowbird and havent been around much. I happen to be here this winter, since November to take care of my dad who passed last month. I've whined about big dogs enough and that will be all on that topic from me.

Did Missouri get their two feet from lake Michigan too?
-
Exactly, along with transferring energy. That's been my point all along. Our location makes it the harder to get a big dog vs chicago, thus why they own us.
-
Not quite sure what I'm exaggerating or who's called me out. We suck at big dogs plain and simple. That's all I've been saying. Never have I said I didn't enjoy 6-12 events, they just don't get me all excited anymore. The shit today is what's annoying. Just enough to mess up the roads.
-
Ghd1 had nothing to do with lake Michigan. I am aware we do better than Chicago avg wise and with the smaller/avg events. I just get tired of the its not our climo b.s. to get a big dog, and its unrealistic to want one. The point is it's possible. Ec, minneapolis, Chicago, they've all had one in the last 20 years.

Looks like y'all did better than north of the city up in macomb. Can still see the grass here.

Gfs and euro both with nothing of significance snow wise at all. -
One of these days I'll get Josh to admit chicago owns us in big dogs. He doesn't seem to weakening his turd polishing shield anytime soon but I will keep chipping away. It's all in good fun and glad we could entertain you in the slightest. I'm sure it's annoying to some but there ain't nothing else going on of any weather significance. People think I dont enjoy the smaller events and that's false. Just getting slightly annoyed we can't get over the hump here. I don't think expecting a big dog every 40 years is unrealistic. I don't expect one every winter and totally understand it's not our regular climo. But seeing almost everyone around us get one in my lifetime doesn't help.
-
Dry east wind making alot of the precip virga here. Guess I'll have to get excited for hopefully atleast an hour of good snow.
-
That's where our differences are. You're content with mediocrity and that's okay. I get it, it's weather, we can't do anything about it so why complain about it. Some are okay with bud light, some like myself enjoy Sam adams. Some people have dreams and the hope for more. Some aren't content with reaching avg annual snows. I just hope for more and keep getting disappointed. It'll all just be that more satisfying once my big dog dreams come true in 2050.
-
Yeah I can never live in the u.p. away from my friends and g/f. Also ,the whole point is getting the big dog in your backyard and moving to have to see it ruins most of the satisfaction. Also this whining and calling out josh is filling in the boring stretch of weather we currently are in.
-
I agree with just the first paragraph lol.
-
I didn't remember one storm lol, and I have been a snowbird a lot in past winters so I probably wasn't home for it, and didn't come home for it since 36 hours to get 16 inches doesn't excite me. I never said Detroit sucks or that I don't enjoy snow when we get it. It just sucks to miss out on several big dogs the past 20 years. We go through this every winter. We both like different things but I guess you'll never understand where I'm coming from. You keep repeating the same stats like I don't comprehend that we do better than ChIcago in the smaller events. I guess you can't read your own stats. Just keep wearing those rose colored glasses. 12”+ -- 2 ----- 4 14”+ -- 1 ----- 2 16”+ -- 1 ----- 2 18”+ -- 0 ----- 2 24”+ -- 0 ----- 0
-
It's just something about getting that big dog in your own backyard. I just get tired of josh turd polishing everything, like Detroit is the best place to be in the winter. Chicago is 10:4 over us in storms 12+ in recent years which backs up my original point. He doesn't get tired of all the mediocre events which is fine. I get it, its not in our climo to get big storms, but the point is its possible and we don't. He just can't admit that we suck at big dogs and Chicago is just in a better location. Instead he just focuses on our mediocre 4-10 events and how we own Chicago in that department. That's like the lions beating the bears in the regular season, then losing to them in the playoffs.
-
It's a weird feeling today, with disappointment still mixed in. Usually its just a social event day for us in detroit and watch some of the game, but with the lions choking it away, I don't think I can watch today. Still bummed out. It just bugs me to see the 49ers players walking around like they are the shit, when they should've lost to the packers and the lions. I hope the chiefs destroy them today.
