Sugar sand as we Pineys call it. This area though had quite a lot of clay mixed in too. The amount of dust that was getting kicked up by other vehicles made it nearly impossible to see.

Another beautiful day in store. Already flirting with 70. We'll make a run for 80 tomorrow. Out exploring some less traveled fire roads in the Pine Barrens documenting some rare plants

Still looks bone dry for the next 7 - 10 days.

Beautiful and not so chilly night out on the beach. Atlas comet still visible despite the extremely bright moon.

Just to show how dry it is out here: Where my truck is parked is usually in a foot of water, with an additional foot of loose mud underneath. Solid ground. Not a lick of moisture. I've been 4-wheeling out here as long as I can remember and have never seen this puddle completely dried up.

NJFFS implementing Stage 2 fire restrictions. Some mud puddles on the fire roads that are usually over 2 feet deep even during occasional dry spells are bone dry.

Overnighting at IBSP tonight to fish and hopefully catch the Aurora. Going to be a cold one. Hopefully I brought enough cold snacks and firewood.

It's a lose-lose regardless. That just brings more water into Fort Myers Beach, Port Charlotte, Cape Coral, Naples, etc. Just as densely populated.

Might book a flight down to ride this one out. Got family in the Naples/Marco area

Great swell maker for us east coast surfers. Been either flat or blown out onshore all summer. That being said, big rip current risk. Water's still warm at the beach. Was 69 here in NJ yesterday. Don't swim unless there's lifeguards around

Could have some opportunities to see the northern lights in the upcoming days. First hit arrives this evening around midnight, then an even better chance from the largest flare since 2017 this weekend.

Their intensity/position forecast is in 12 hour intervals. There's time in between the 24 hour fix/strength and when it makes landfall. That's why they note that further strengthening is possible up until landfall after 24 hours

Yep, a 15 mile jog to the NE now could keep the center off the Yucatan, prevents any potential disruption to the circulation, resulting in a possibly stronger system, etc.

Wow what a bust. Full blue sky overhead. Could be a fantastic beach day.

Only 2.14" of rain in the last 2 months (since July 13th). Every reasonable shot of rain, pop-up thunderstorm, anything, has avoided Ocean County between NJ-37 and NJ-72. Bone dry. Lawn is dead. Haven't mowed since June.
