    Scattered snow showers today certainly made skiing more enjoyable with the brisk breeze. Due to sublimation the snow depth at MSP is down to T.

    If anyone is bored looking for something to do, the annual U.S. Pond Hockey Championships are being held on Lake Nokomis a few blocks from my house this weekend. It’s a cool tournament that brings out tons of teams from around the country. There’s about 16” of ice on the lake presently. https://www.uspondhockey.com

    Cloud cover moved in, and winds turned southerly so we only dropped down to -1 overnight. This was the 12th below zero low in Minneapolis this month.

    Never thought I’d live to see the day. Mississippi Delta will have as much snow on the ground as the Mississippi Headwaters. What a world!

    Already -17 at MSP. That was the forecast low tonight. Let’s make a run for -20!

    It looks like the official high in Minneapolis will be -6F today. That makes today the coldest high temperature since the -13F on 1/30/2019. That day featured a low of -28F which is the coldest it’s gotten here since I moved to Minneapolis in 2016.

    Temps stuck at -8 all day. We’ve had ice crystal squalls move through and deposit dustings at time. Haven’t experienced something quite like this before at these temperatures. There might have been a 5min obs of -6 but we’ll see what the official high is at 6pm.

    Sitting at -13F this morning in Minneapolis. Our coldest low of the season. These aren’t final numbers but from what I can find currently -20F Duluth, -22F Bemidji, -24F International Falls, -26F Ely

    At least you can’t blame warm temps for the bare ground this year. It’s been plenty cold just bone dry northwest of the lakes.

    Midnight high of 16 at MSP. Down to 7 at 6am. I’m surprised but the airport was able to hang onto our 1” snow depth through the 1 day warm up.

    Front has moved through. Down to 28 and falling fast after our high of 38 today. Backyard remains snow covered.

    5.5” from a juiced Clipper on December 19th. Pennies outside of that. Can’t get a system to come our way this winter. Only have to go to hour 330 on the GFS for substantial precipitation in my region.

    All of us here know it’s coming too. Although snowfall has been paltry this winter locally there has been plenty of seasonable cold. The twin cities have held a 1-2” snow depth since last Thursday.

    -3F overnight low. Temps have shot up to 7 already. Unfortunately it looks like our meager snowpack will be mostly gone come Friday night.
