    Not down there in GA. That freezing layer is probably very shallow at this point. Wont take much to pull you above freezing. But definitely will be ZR at the onset. Edit - surface obs at Morganton and Blairsville GA are already showing 46°. Probably a slightly higher elevation, sure. But the heat is coming east.

    We're going to get another 1/2" of sleet here in the triad before this flips to ZR later today. It is still raining sleet here.

    More of an impossible forecast than a bust. Nobody has ever seen CAD conditions like this as far as my 58 years can recall. So there aren't any analogs to model against that says "historic CAD = 12 hour delay in precip arriving". This is 100% an evolving situation and highly dependent upon local conditions including terrain / altitude. I think the whole forum deserves a pass on this one.

    Wonder if flash flooding in the northern mountains of VA / WVA is a possibility? They have a foot of new snow in many places that is going to get another inch or so of rain dumped this afternoon.

    Pouring sleet in Kernersville with some gusty winds. Temps have started the upward ticks now to 16°. Into the 40s on the west side of the apps, wow!! Convection rolling north for this afternoon. Thunder ZR anyone?

    Our snow totals went to Cincinnati. They appear to be headed for 16". That's a huge storm for them as well.

    Convective part of the system coming out of the gulf now. Temps shooting up well into southern TN. This wedge is unbreakable in the Triad north into VA. So my concerns for heavier ZR overnight are going up. Looking very juicy headed into daylight hours.

    Incredible weather going on all over the place right now. If you are in Cincinnati, for example, you already have several inches on the ground. You check the radar and your moisture feed streches back to DFW!!! I fully expect we will soon be seeing reports of thundersleet too. And the temp keeps dropping here in the triad now down to 14°. Just nuts!!

    I would not want to be on I-77 between Bluefield and Beckley right now. I would love some ground level reports. It should be a downpour of sleet right now.

    Interesting switch up here in Kernersville, its snowing again as best I can tell. But its like pixie dust. Now everything is covered in maybe an 1/8th inch of the finest snow grains I've ever seen. And its blowing around too. This storm is tri-polar! Edit - I see in the foothills thread they are calling it diamond dust. Sounds about right for what I am seeing. We've had a little bit of everything tonight!

    Coming down hard and blowing something on the farm cams in Stuart VA. Looks like snow. I dont think IP would float that much. Ground is almost covered.

    I bet what we are seeing in Kvegas and Walkertown is skirting just north of you. Coming down good 10 miles west of you.

    How much sleet can we realistically get in 8-9 hours? Cuz thats about what were looking at upstream on radar. Everything else after that may switch over to freezing rain/drizzle tomorrow morning. But with the CAD we have in place for the triad, i'm banking on 90% IP. Maybe a quarter inch an hour with moderate rates....so 2-3" total IP is my best guess.

    After this non-storm I can safely say I have everything I need for the foreseeable future. Next event, grocery store, gas and dog food, that's it. If anything, this forced me to change the oil in the generators. So there's that.

    Purely focused on radar OBS now kind sir! Good to know you are here and watching out for us. I'm looking specifically at the band headed into eastern TN thats getting crushed by these low DPs. Seems the initial "finger" of moisture that was showing up on a few models doesnt stand a chance.

    No flurries all the way back to Winston. Radar just keeps drying up. Dewpoints and cold winning this early battle. I expect we will lose all of the QPF before Oz to virga. That really limits this to a 12 hour event. We're dodging bullets in real time here.

    26° at the farm in Stuart and it 100% smells like snow. Has to be just over my head now. Expecting to see flurries on the drive back to Winston. Generator #2 is in the truck with propane bottles and gas. I'm as prepared as I can be to help myself and neighbors. Its go time!
