  1. Let's keep the dews away too, please. Nobody wants mold for Christmas.
  2. I've got hardware cloth for the primary veggie garden (for groundhogs) as well as for the coop (predators). I had considered rat traps, but with chickens and children and songbirds I decided against to avoid any accidents. They weren't a nuisance to my garden, but their tunneling was causing sinkholes to pop up dangerously close to the footing of my deck. I was content coexisting with them until then.
  3. Used as a last resort as I hate killing things unnecessarily, especially in this semi-humane manner...5 gallon bucket 3/4 full of water, handfull of sunflower seeds on top. piece of scrap wood 2x4 as a ramp. Check for bodies 1-2x a day, refill with seeds as needed.

  5. Managed to double my July/August to date total with 1.79" yesterday. Needed it. Not the 3-5" that fell in interior York but it's a dent in the Stein bucket nonetheless.
  6. On that image you posted I am between Cape Elizabeth and Portland, that blue/green zone and I'm over 2". Very efficient rainfall this evening.
  7. We're in the same boat. Newer house, newer system, propane for 2400 sq, spend $1200 a year all-in on propane. Even with the price we locked in at this year, we're looking at $1400 based on past usage. Looked at heat pump system, did the analysis, would not be worth the investment for heating because we're so efficient. The only reason we would have gone for it would have been for cooling. Much more efficient than running window units. My local climo/house isn't that demanding on cooling, though, so ultimately we didn't get them.
  8. Can I join the Stein pissing match? 1.76" since 7/1, over half of that coming yesterday. Fight me!!
  9. Damn, I don't even have that since 7/1. We envy. 0.68" as of 7AM, 0.99" for the month. We still take.
  10. Sitting at 79F at 920PM, a mere 3 miles from a body of water that's 65F. Wtf?
  11. I would say the issue lies with your gadden/gardener, not the lack of precip.
  12. We have an area that borders the woods just outside the fence in this photo that's our milkweed area. Similar to what @mreavesposted. This year we planted Mexican Sunflowers in the box adjacent to that area and we've been flush with polinators including monarchs, bees, hummingbirds and something I didn't know existed: hummingbird moths (second photo). I highly recommend these sunflowers for any pollinator garden.
  13. I wonder if the increase is pandemic-related. More inexperienced people taking to outdoor activities - thinking specifically things like kayaking and paddleboarding.
  14. For sure. I am not undermining the awfulness of the tragedy... People have to use common sense. Being in a car, sitting still, under 40ft white pines during a storm, no matter how severe, is not a good idea. Maybe they couldn't go anywhere else.
  15. somehow your lawn looks even worse from space
  16. there used to be a WxStem camera up high on a building at St. Joseph's College, would be a great shot for this as it's headed right for them.
  17. ruh roh This camera is missing in action. It may no longer be available for public viewing.
  18. First 90F this year here. 90/64F and AC finally installed yesterday.
