  1. I am trying to be less bad at this but the western ridge looks better so far. I'm hopeful. But mostly have no idea what I'm doing other than many hours spent looking at 500mb plots.
  2. Pretty good rule to take your best-case scenario as like 2/3rds of what HRRR, RAP and NAM show.
  3. Love seeing streets in our urban area covered. Rare and awesome. Great storm even if we don't hit 12"
  4. Sick! Sharp gradients with this storm. I'm only about 20 miles, basically due west, of you. And we're at 6" max right now, though in a heavy band.
  5. This band is sick. I'm the little red x
  6. Yep, re-coating my driveway which I just finished shoveling.
  7. yep. getting monster flakes here too.
  8. I'm in the zip code 20910 just south of the 495 beltway and north of the DC northern apex, in Silver Spring. Just measured about 4.75" averaged across a few spots in the yard and on a snowboard surface. I was out shoveling from 8am til now. Went from SN+, to SN- with a bit of ice and frozen pellet drizzle (?) to back to moderate snow with bigger flakes in the last 15 minutes. Hope I can pull 6" out of the first part then another 1-2" later.
  9. Brief lull at about 715/730am near downtown silver spring just north of DC. Now back to mod/heavy snow. Eyeballing we're at 4"+ but will go measure and shovel soon.
  10. More than 2",didn't take a stick outside, so far near downtown silver spring. Weatherbug says 27/27. Cold, light catching flakes accumulating quickly. Small flake size. Morning jebwalk.
  11. Heck yeah. Jebwalk tomorrow night
  12. Yep, great event. I was in Hyattsville and have great memories of taking my then 5yo sledding while it was dumping snow.
  13. Pretty fun watching the eagles backups beat on the Giants.
  14. They always jack compared to us around the DC beltway. However, we have won in a few rare instances like Jan 2019 I think.
  15. 32/7 at my local school's weatherbug a half mile away. Tapping that good gulf juice on the water vapor loop: https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/goes/conus_band.php?sat=G16&band=09&length=24
  16. Not as cold here inside the beltway with local weatherbug stations around 20F, but that's still cold for the UHI
  17. just went for a morning run. Here in our neck of the woods, the ground is frozen solid. pretty big deal for before a snowstorm inside the beltway.
  18. @Jebmanputting this in banter where it belongs but here inside the DC beltway i am PRIMED to get out my snow shovels out of the garage this morning. Am i putting out any salt to pre melt on my driveway or sidewalk? NO! I am going to SHOVEL this HEAVY SNOW. I am going to PUT THE CAR ON THE STREET so it's not safe in the garage specifically so I CAN DIG IT OUT! Also, the guy who we bought our house from left a bunch of outdoor equipment here, including two shovels to supplement the two I already owned. I AM GOING TO DUAL WIELD SHOVELS
  19. On the other hand, non zero chance of back to back (to back? Getting greedy) warning level events. Pretty cool! But agreed on fail risk
  20. That's a decent slug of sleet on the 3k NAM from roughly MD 200 / MD 32 south. IDGAF I'll take the glacier.
  21. Thru 49 hours. Possibly some wraparound to come later after a dry period.
  22. "As this surface low deepens and move east, impressive moisture will be drawn northward from the Gulf of Mexico within a corridor of intensifying isentropic ascent, especially within the 290-295K surfaces. Here, mixing ratios climb to 4-6 g/kg, reflective of the impressive moist driven by the warm advection, further evidenced by PW anomalies surging to above the 97th percentile according to NAEFS." we're pulling that good gulf juice into this baby. Visible on those nam charts ravens is pulling
  23. First law of 12k NAM: if it's showing a lot of snow, believe in the power of being NAM'd Second law of 12k NAM: if it's showing not enough snow, it's dead wrong and a booty cheeks model
  24. What's your definition of lowlands. How far from the fall line?
