  1. It’s early August and Football season is right around the corner, and with that so is cooler temps and the season of Fall in Tennessee. We can use this thread to keep the summer thread free of fall/winter talk. I hope everyone has had a good summer so far. I’m looking forward to the upcoming months and what they possibly could bring weather wise for all of us!
  2. Nice, I had a pretty good cell come Through my area last Night as well. Picked up a good rain too!
  3. I have a confirmed tornado on the ground 20 miles from my house right now. I’m under a tornado Warning until 1:30. I’ll keep you guys updated
  4. Penn state- that’s awesome man. I hope it went well for you guys!! Thanks for the update on the severe side of the spectrum.
  5. @jaxjagman- you expecting any severe cells from tropical storm Barry over the next few day?
  6. Good stuff, thanks for that! I think adjusting expectations downward is a good idea as well. As hard as that may be to come to terms with, (haha). Good info to know though going forward, everyone will have to me more reserved when using past analogs to interpret future seasons/climate. On a side note- the rain has started rolling into west Tn from tropical storm Barry. Some areas could see significant flash flooding so it could get dangerous for some of our neighbors in Mississippi, as well as parts of Tennessee and Alabama. The temps have dropped off significantly ahead of the storm as well.
  7. So John, I know you are big about keeping notes and records of the weather in your area. I was just curious about what type of winters you’ve had after summers with unusually high rainfall totals. There may not be any correlation, but I thought if there was any you would know. Let me know what you find out please.
  8. I’ve had some similar storms over the past week as well. All from the north and out of no where! Rain totals for the month are pretty astonishing for June. We will have to wait on the verdict for July though. Humidity has been a bear this week on the west side of the state.
  9. Last thing we need indeed. The kids in hardeman country still haven’t gone back to school due to all the flooded roads still affecting bus routes. We definitely need to keep an eye on any possible precip coming in the next 5-7 days imo.
  10. I used to work in a lot of power plants doing switchgear Maintenance on the circuit breaks throughout the plant. All the turbine floors are usually on the 3rd or 4th floor of the plants. First floor is usually a huge open area that runs just about the whole floor with a large crane running in the rafters to move large items down and up from the other floors, and you’ll have a few other non essential things on the first floor. I share all this to say that most power plants can handle a serious flood better than most would think due to the way they are layed out. They also have tons of extra drainage valves through your the plant that are there to help in the unlikely event that a fire happens and the fire suppression system cuts on. Those drains could also help if you had flooding from the river the plant was on as well.
  11. That’s about 10 miles north of me.
  12. I’m under a tornado warning as we speak. It’s pretty ominous outside
  13. I’m under a tornado warning until 6:15 in Hardeman County. Apparently one has touched down in the northeastern part of the county.
  14. Something to keep an eye on for sure
  15. What are you thinking about the cells coming into Memphis now Jax?
  16. I’m under a tornado watch in west tn. The line about to cross the Mississippi River in Memphis looks particularly nasty. Flash flood warnings popping up along the path of the cells in about a 5 county long line from Arkansas into north Mississippi/south west tn.
  17. This one gives you a little bit better understanding as you can see the levee in the backdrop and how high the water is up onto the levee.
  18. Here is a partial picture of what my front yard looks like this morning. The pond does not hold water anymore and is empty 10 months a year so that gives you an idea of how much rain we have received here in west tn.
  19. Hatchie river in my neck off the woods is scheduled to be at 18.5 by Sunday morning. At 19ft the river starts to flood houses along river road in hardeman county. If we get to 19ft it could get ugly for a lot of people on or along the Hatchie River. Stay safe this weekend guys/gals.
  20. Winter Weather Advisories up for muliple counties in the upper north west corner of Tennessee. Calling for freezing rain up to .10 of an inch. Could get dicey tonight for our northern forum folks between union city and Clarksville.
  21. I can’t help but think how epic last year would of been had we had this pattern of precipitation during our epic January cold spell in 2018. We would of seen some huge snow storms had it happened. As far as right now, I fear for everyone with river front properties as they stand to have some serious problems if these flooding concerns happen as previewed.
  22. What does AAM tendency mean? Or singularly what does AAM stand for?
  23. The last time Memphis saw snow in February during an El Niño year was 2010. It was a big time event too as 5 inches fell on February 8th 2010. Interestingly enough the following year saw 3.1 inches fall on February 9th 2011, although 2011 had a Strong La Niña whereas 2010 had a moderate El Niño.
