    Yup I love these snowsqualls, we missed the first one which happened around 1:30 but got a 30 min snow squall just now that's about to end. 3:30-4

    a best case scenario for this kind of storm is what happened in late February 2008. Look up that storm, an SWFE in a mild pattern occurred mainly at night and into the morning, a surprise 6-8 inches that didn't change over until the very end of the storm, and then it went to drizzle.

    Don with the SOI being 0.00 for the first time since 2016 do you think we'll transition to an el nino for next winter?

    and then back to colder and possibly snowier pattern by next weekend Chris? Looks like record cold is diving into the middle of the country for the start of March?

    I haven't seen the longer range but is this first storm just supposed to be the doorway into a much colder and possibly snowier pattern? Something to look forward to in case this first one doesn't pan out. I think the March 2nd possible storm might have the highest potential.

    these storms generally suck unless you're extremely cold beforehand as in the winters above

    In March 2015 we did well but that was an abnormally cold winter overall. 1993-94 was another example....but again a much colder winter than this one.

    there's another interesting side issue here....if we have a developing el nino for next winter doesn't that enhance the risk for a developing late season snowstorm a la April 1982 and 1997? It would have to be a big el nino to increase that risk though

    no SSW but might have a March more like 2015, although not as cold?

    how do you stop a multiyear la nina? talking about realistic climate modification to regulate climate patterns.

    yeah 100 degrees on a west wind and humidity of 25% is a lot more comfortable, I go running in that weather

    it could happen if we had a really cold winter like 2014-15, I remember snow being reported on Long Island off a sea breeze lol.

    Foggy and gusty doesn't make any sense because you'd expect the wind to blow the fog away.

    why do eastern areas get all the fun? It should be the entire south shore of Long Island, it's been extremely windy all day

    I like when we get pure west winds because it keeps the humidity low. I wish there was a way to generate a west wind all the time when it's not raining or snowing Maybe we can do that with that wind farm we're putting up lol

    It sucks, I still remember how great February 2018 was. Some of my favorite springs started in April 2002 (90s) and April 2010 (90s), dry and hot, leading into wonderful summers.

    Is that how we did so well in April 2003 and April 2018? The snow in both cases got heavy before sunrise and continued most of the day? I actually love April snows a lot more than March snows..... March snows never seem to measure up to the greats like 1888, 1960, 1993, etc. But in April you get a 4-6" snowstorm and it's automatically one of the greats and remembered decades afterwards.

    Absolutely.... March 2018 was completely overrated for our area March 2015 was my favorite March of the entire decade. Actually February and March of that year were probably the best that winter gave us, even better than December and January in 2010-11

    sleet counts as snow with a 2:1 ratio? lol that means in March 2007 all that sleet counted as 5" of snow

    the 51 high is a shocker because it was supposed to hit 60 here.
