  1. I wonder if we've already seen the greatest negative departures of the winter when the high was in the low 20s and lows in the low teens in December?
  2. How similar is this to what happened in January 1977 ?
  3. You can have snow even in a warm February-- see February 2018, that Valentine's Day/Night snow was memorable.
  4. See December 1989 for cold and dry (and that was a real cold December, unlike this one.)
  5. If we transported any of these 18th and early 19th century scientists to the present, they would undoubtedly be amazed by the climatic changes that have occurred in that interval. You don't have to go that far back! The climate has changed A GREAT DEAL and orders of magnitude between the 70s/80s and 10s/20s !!
  6. Is it because humanity has kick started the Anthropocene ??
  7. Chris are the SST still around 50? The Polar Bear Club won't be shivering this year! Record high New Years SST !!
  8. almost sounds like a hybrid subtropical system.
  9. there were a few winters like that in the 80s. No above average snowfall winters and definitely no HECS after February 1983 but a lot of moderate or smaller snowfalls that nickled and dimed us to just below average snowfall winters. I bet a lot of people would be happy with a 20-25 inch snowfall winter with the maximum snowfall in any one storm being 4-6 inches.
  10. two decades.... meaning going back to the 2003-04 winter? They probably mean for January..... as I don't believe this will be as cold as February 2015 was.
  11. hmm I really thought today would be warmer than yesterday
  12. some of us cant multiquote because the browser we use doesn't store the quote of previous posts. using DuckDuckGo here
  13. Yeah it was crazy there and eastern Long Island 30 inches I think that started as rain here and then changed to snow not snow to rain (I like rain to snow much better obviously lol), kind of like the late February 2010 snowicane here in that way.
  14. January 6th is the 29th anniversary of January 6, 1996. You want to know what we were progged to get on this date in 1995 for January 6, 1996? ZILCH !
  15. well the primary did its dirty work here since it was rain here for half the storm, 10 inches of snow isn't bad though
  16. Tony do you have more info on that great December 1717 cold wave and what caused it? I find it even more impressive than the one in February 1934 since this one occurred earlier and was a much colder winter with multiple below 0 outbreaks! Perhaps the coldest winter since 1782-83 which was fueled by that volcano in Iceland?
  17. Chris was that 1 top 10 coldest month February 2015?
  18. Most people would rather have the warmth and sunshine if it's not going to snow. NYC hit 70 in December 1984 too before it got down to -2 in January on the Reagan inauguration. No snow though, that winter absolutely sucked.
  19. People should enjoy the warm weather. If it's not going to snow it should be 60 and sunny. Who the hell wants 40s and rain?
  20. it was better when it wasn't working
  21. Long Beach was a great place to be for this storm!
