the high was 70 here
-
an inside runner, would be mostly rain here
-
No, it would have been raining here in January too, this is an inside runner.
-
Yes it was nice and warm here around 3 pm 70 .... not 76 lol

It would be interesting to see what kind of summers we generally have after a cool May. May is close enough to summer to serve as some gage I take it?
-
This is why our springs have gotten cooler (high temps) and a -nao has become prevalent in April and May while a +nao is prevalent in the winter now.
-
At least this will be gone before Memorial Day weekend. From the maps I've seen there may even be some sunshine tomorrow morning and the sun may come out again Friday afternoon.
-
you must have been near freezing on this date in 2002, ironic after a huge historic heatwave in April that year and the nicely hot and dry summer to follow.
-
haha I had my space heater on. don't need to open any windows the cold wind comes into my house and blows open my bedroom door.
-
I've always thought it's the out of shape people that complain about the heat.
-
climatologically that kind of weather begins in June, it's rare for it to be muggy and sultry in May. And not even early June, more like after June 15th.
-
96 is a stretch, I'd say more like 84.
-
where is this cold coming from? I don't see it getting any colder than the SST, the highs should all be 55 or higher with lows in the upper 40s.
-
Records:Highs:EWR: 99 (1996)NYC: 96 (1996)LGA: 97 (1996)JFK: 95 (1996)Lows:EWR: 41 (2002)NYC: 43 (2002)LGA: 44 (2002)JFK: 42 (2002) it's not often that you see all the records line up like this lol 2002: A cold wave across the eastern and central U.S. led to many cities recording record low temperatures for this day. Among them was Hartford, CT where the low of 31° was the latest in the season below freezing temperatures have been recorded. This cold wave began two days earlier with 54 record daily lows set, followed by another 96 on the 19th. and this was after a historic heatwave in April with highs in the upper 90s! and a very hot summer to follow!

I'm optimistic about Saturday, I think the storm will get the boot Friday evening and we'll have partly cloudy skies for the entire weekend with temps between 65-70.
-
it's too cold for my liking, but I love the deep blue skies. I have a space heater to keep me warm lol.
-
I was shivering last night and this morning! The only good thing about this weather are the gorgeous deep blue skies, blue skies are good for the soul :-)

but even high 40s with dp 20 won't cause frost, for frost the dp has to be freezing or below and the temperature has to be within 5 degrees of the dp.... in other words the absolute highest temperature and dp that frost can happen is 37/32.
-
Good lord lol, I'm glad I have a space heater in my bedroom. I guess I'm picky, sometimes I go from having my ceiling fan and sometimes even air conditioning on during the day and the heater on at night.
-
I think May 2020 was the last time we had a frost or freeze threat in May, nothing even remotely close to that is coming up. Upper 40s are meh.
-
It's shocking how cold some of those 80s winters were nearby. Central Park may not have hit -10 or colder since 1934 but Newark and even Philly either hit -10 or came close during the early 80s. Off the top of my head, Christmas 1980 was one of those days and even had snow with temperatures near 0. January 1982 also had that and a blizzard in April with temperatures in the upper teens! 1983-84 was also extremely cold with a la nina that came after the big el nino. January 1985 had a historic arctic outbreak with lows below 0 and highs only in the single digits here. Even 1982-83 with the big el nino had a historic 20"+ snowstorm in February and the latest snowfall on record at JFK on April 19th.

My ideal weather is 70 with sun, 50s is still heater weather for me lol. 60s are okay as long as the sun is out and it's not windy.
-
wow I'm shocked 2010-11 and 2013-14 aren't on the coldest list, as they were pretty cold too. 2014-15 I understand because December to mid January was mild. 1995-96 had that three week thaw in January. 2002-03 was cold but more snowy than cold. Going back to the 80s, I would have thought 1981-82 should be on there as it was an extremely cold winter that lasted into April!
-
as long as the sun is out it will hit 70 here for Memorial Day. The cold weather will come this week with the rain and be out of here by the weekend.
-
well I guess they're too busy eating sunflower seeds
