  1. It sounds like a hurricane out there.
  2. A record positive AO, with a positive NAO in February. This is not even close to being our winter.
  3. 2006 was NYC's second largest snowfall. Didn't that happen in Feb and not March?
  4. I think we had one of those in January 2006 right before our major Feb 2006 snowstorm. I would be alright with one 60-70 day if it meant that's what follows, but so far, it doesn't look good.
  5. You're right. 2010-2011 was an AMAZING year for snowstorms. We had two KU events that winter which followed a KU event in February 2010. We haven't had one since January 2016.
  6. Seems like it. With the exception of 2016, I don't think we've had a good winter for over a decade.
  7. Can the winters of the 2000s please come back? Please?
  8. Ha! Look at that! A line of thunderstorms broke up before reaching the NYC Metro area. Can't even get a good thunderstorm in January!
  9. This is interesting... can it impact our weather? https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/dec/27/hot-blob-vast-and-unusual-patch-of-warm-water-off-new-zealand-coast-puzzles-scientists?CMP=twt_gu&utm_medium=&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1577410936
  10. Shades of Chernobyl. The State didn't want scientists to spread anything that in any way shape or form disagreed with the official position of the State. It's easy to see where Trump gets his behavior from.
  11. I still wonder why Dorian wasn't upgraded to a Cat. 5 sooner. Every single piece of data showed it being a Cat. 5 and the NHC refused to upgrade it until they could no longer wait. Very odd behavior.
  12. We also can't create a consensus that the world isn't flat or evolution isn't real. We shouldn't let those that disagree with science hold back our progress.
  13. I'm answering my own question. https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2012/01/why-noaa-commerce-department We should create a cabinet level department that houses Climatology, Geology and Meteorology and move NOAA and the USGS there and create some kind of new organization that deals with climate change.
  14. Why is NOAA under the Dept. of Commerce anyway?
  15. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/noaa-staff-warned-in-sept-1-directive-against-contradicting-trump/2019/09/07/12a52d1a-d18f-11e9-87fa-8501a456c003_story.html “This is the first time I’ve felt pressure from above to not say what truly is the forecast,” the meteorologist said. “It’s hard for me to wrap my head around. One of the things we train on is to dispel inaccurate rumors and ultimately that is what was occurring — ultimately what the Alabama office did is provide a forecast with their tweet, that is what they get paid to do.”
  16. Our tax dollars are being used to attack the very people whose job it is to help save lives. This is horrifying.
  17. This banter thread belongs in the hall of fame for banter threads: True or false?
