  1. New leadership in NOVA. Loudoun probably will follow suite next year.
  2. You will see a substantial decrease in FCPS school/gov closings going forward.
  3. The only better snow climo is probably the Catoctin Mts. (Thurmont, Sabillasville, Highfield-Cascade) excellent fishing too.
  4. https://m.facebook.com/hopwrf/posts/562550350492139
  5. Good site to bookmark. The maps are usually updated every 12 hours during an event: CC: @mappy https://www.weather.gov/lwx/ObservedWeatherMaps
  6. For those of you invested in this event, you might want to start looking to western MD...already some mPING reports in Garrett County of SN and the 0.5° CC on Sterling's radar is showing the melting layer creeping closer. Oakland airport is also down to 34°, which is several degrees lower than forecast.
  7. We discuss these events every year at the COG and OPM meetings. It's the number one event to cripple an area. Some weak sauce that clipper or fropa that's in a cold airmass with high ratio snow that just overperforms by like an inch or two.
  8. The key difference was the road temperatures at the time. When you start with roads below 32° and rush hour, the snow accumulates, the tires melt it, then it re-freezes in black ice. It's been documented across the country. This time we have warm roads so I don't see a problem, but $20 say we get a cover-your-a$$ WWA around 4:00 pm.
  9. It's a Potential Hazard Commuting Statement which is part of the NWS initiative to highlight weather that would have a particular impact on commutes in urban areas. It's a result of the Jan 27, 2011 and Jan 20, 2016 events which royally jacked the roads up and people wrongfully blamed NWS for because we can't understand that it sometimes snows in the winter.
  10. I'm cool with getting stuck there all winter. I just need a campfire and a weather radio.
  11. Stop looking at the Good For Shit model and its ensembles. It's not happening.
  12. Had our 5 minutes of winter this morning in Reisterstown.
  13. Hope north of I-70 jackpots bigly tomorrow.
  14. The complete lack of a good cP air mass in the long range across all guidance is concerning.
  15. Positively tilted trough is no bueno in these parts.
  16. Traditionally, the center of the ULL going west to east along the I-64 corridor works for DCA and points north. The evolution depicted above is okay for jackpotville and the hills, but not for the majority of us, too far north.
  17. ^nearly all the accumulation south of Mason-Dixon comes from the ULL. Historically, we lose 9.9/10 times this way south of Mason-Dixon.
  18. Three 10 foot rows of garlic planted this weekend and put under a plastic row cover. Beets and collards to follow next weekend.
  19. BWI: 18" DCA: 10" IAD: 18" RIC: 10" Tiebreaker SBY: 8"
  20. My garden is shot too, just the pumpkins, beets and collards are left.
  21. Some purists say a 3:1 during the start and end of the season for the higher sugar content, then taper to a 4:1 during the "normal" summer. I have kept a little harem of birds around for 2 years with my 3:1 ratio.
  22. Ditto on the Lantana and Milkweed recommendation. Also, put a hummingbird feeder on a pole there with a 3:1 (water:sugar) ratio and you'll have some great bird action all summer and into mid autumn.
