    The 6z GFS also has the Saturday pm Chance for Advisory snow.

    The 0z GFS & Canadian both have a Saturday night system that delivers minor Advisory level snow to most of us. Hopefully this trends into a trackable event this week.

    There are still some small snow piles in some parking lots around here from the 12/22 event that brought 2 to 4” to many. There was also still some ice on the lake at Little Buffalo state park today.

    MDT only averages 5.4 inches of snow through the end of December. I would love more snow in December, but Our averages and odds are much higher in January & February when MDT averages closer to 10 inches per month.

    Yes, brutal today with unexpected rain! We went to walk around Little Buffalo state park up in Newport. The temps were nice in the mid 50s with clouds. The second half of our trail walk around the lake brought the unexpected rain showers!

    The period around the 13th & 14th bears watching for a storm that could track under us.

    The ensembles are indicating a very active period coming up starting next week. I will take my chances with an active pattern in the heart of Winter and hope it’s just cold enough to deliver snow. We will probably win some & lose some, but it doesn’t look boring.

    A slow move through MJO phase 8 and 1 in the heart of Winter from mid January onward would get this Winter going in the right direction. The GEFS & Euro MJO forecast are both trending in this direction.

    Lol…certainly not you… read a few posts back…. Thanks for pointing out that we have had lean snow years several decades ago. My point is that some people apparently have forgotten and think this is some new phenomenon.

    Lol….I promise it will snow again. We are only a few inches below normal snow to date…we can get caught up & then some in a hurry. I accept that we have some good snow years & some bad snow years & some average snow years….just like we always have….& we always will.

    Thanks for this post! Lol, some people on here think that we must have used to get 10 feet of snow every year around here. These same people think it should snow from Halloween to Easter non stop every season…just like the good old days…lol!

    I wore shorts today & enjoyed a little time outside. Beautiful day! I did this while actively tracking the coming pattern change. Winter will soon be back and we will be busy tracking snow!

    Our good & great Winters have long breaks. I could go Winter by Winter to give example after example, but it’s probably no use because some people have no memory or sense of history. All that matters to some people is what happened 5 minutes ago! History just must have started last year!

    The 12z Euro also is showing a signal for this time period next Sunday night.

    The 12z Euro showed a little interest in the Thursday night/Friday chance that the GFS has liked on & off over the last few days.

    The fog is nasty! We we’re on I-81 between Mechanicsburg & Harrisburg & you can barely see 50 yards in front on you. Please be careful if traveling today!

    Oh well, the 12z GFS has no such storm that the 6z advertised. Lol, let’s see what the other models show and the real 18z.

    The 6z GFS was once again full of opportunities for Winter weather even after the chance next Friday. Hopefully we get through the warm up & go right into Winter storm mode!
