Funny how our boom or bust snowfall seems to play out. 3rd snowiest month ever recorded at Islip yet we had what - just five or six days with snow cover? And we spent most of the month talking about how the favorable pattern wasn’t working out.

3F in Wading River. Another nice wintry morning.

Almost tough to reconcile how cold it’s felt this January with the fact it’s only 3.5 degrees below the new average. Maybe we’re all getting soft lol. Perfect winter morning out there - bright Sun on fresh snow, 13f in Wading River.

Light snow in Wading River, temp has dropped to 14F --- was 29F at midnight. That would have been the story - although i'm glad we got the snow to go with it. -

Best rates of the daylight hours over the last hour or so here. We're around 16" now, temp down to 20F. Enjoying a daytime storm for a change... -

Wm floyd was a good forecast but always impossible to pinpoint these bands ahead of time. I’m about 2 miles east of wm floyd on north shore - best rates stayed to my east so far. Great storm, probably these cold snowstorms are the best. -

Tough to measure but 9” or so seems right. 24f in wading river. Waiting for that band over riverhead to push a little further west! -

About 1/2” in Wading River, 29f with a light breeze. Should be in a good spot here. -
You’ve done a great job with the pattern discussions this year! Hopefully we get another run toward the end of winter. This storm will go a long way to offset some of the December frustration.

Agree, it’s got to happen first. But i think it’s fair to make longevity of the snow part of the conversation. Would be nice if the snow sticks around for more time than we spent tracking the storm!

Nothing lasts forever.

We can’t get through December without seeing 50’s or higher. It’s basically a fall month.

Love that snow cover every day in December - can’t imagine we’ll see that again

Flurries and 30F, Wading River. Upton's most recent discussion still somewhat bullish for Suffolk Cty Likewise, cloud bases are lower towards Central and Eastern Long Island and low clouds are more expansive there. Snow has begun to develop but is currently light. Most intense snow expected with potential 1/2 inch to 1 inch per hour rates between 3 and 6 PM for southern and eastern portions of Suffolk County. Winter weather advisory remains in effect until 7PM for these areas. Still going with a snow forecast of 1 to 3 inches with localized amounts up to 4 inches possible. Elsewhere, less than an inch of snow expected with too much dry air in the low levels to allow for steady snow. For NW Suffolk, 1 to 2 inches of snow expected.

Would be great to have snow on the ground and blustery temps for a couple of days after this awful holiday week weather... hoping we all get something from this.

Skied at Gore on Monday -- conditions were pretty good. Once north of Saratoga the ground was covered. Gore has been able to make a good amount of man made snow as well -- you can see it stockpiled on this trail below. I'm sure they'll have it all groomed out for the holiday week. IMG_3518.HEIC
