Sure would be a nice change to have a cold and snowcovered runup to the holidays but I'm not buying yet.

.35” total up the road from you. Too bad, could have used a good soaking.
-
Nice to see ice pellets bouncing on the driveway - this is more exciting than the whole winter
-
Some really strong gusts in Wading River now, lots of tree debris down

Really have to wait for the antibody test because there seems to be an awfully high false negative rate on the swab tests.

Current events certainly put the frustration a lot of us would be feeling about the way winter played out into perspective.
-
Cold start and about 18” otg at our place near Gore today. This winter stinks but most weekends have been salvageable up here. Hopefully we’re not shutout the rest of the way on the coast.

Im actually sitting in airport at Denver, we skied Breckenridge last five days. Once you get to around 9k elevation about 60 miles west of Denver there is plenty of snow. Breckenridge is around 200” for the season so far, streets and sidewalks in town all snow covered. Great ski town. Denver and the nearby plains are having a shutout January.

Agreed. The last 10 Januarys at Upton averaged 16.15" which is well above the long term average and beats the same 10 Februarys average by 2". Even bigger January advantage if you take the last five years instead of 10. So we haven't done as poorly in January as it may seem.

Think we have to lose Dec AND Jan before its fair to question the season. For me even if we have a great few weeks post Feb 1 the season would be tainted beyond repair when you lose those two months. In '12/'13 we had about 6" total by 2/1 .. then about 40" the rest of the way. Can never rule a turnaround like that out - but doesn't necessarily save winter by all standards.

We’re actually driving to Stowe tomorrow in search of better conditions - that certainly gives me second thoughts!
-
Despite the great start to the season it already feels like March at Gore today. Bare patches and fog over the melting snow throughout. The Monday storm may deliver a refresher up here but it looks more like a mixed bag right now. Anyone skiing good conditions this week in the northeast?

Good strategy is to get financing from someplace other than the car dealer - like a credit union. The car dealers always try to make money on the financing.

Yes struck the fear of God into most of my office..well played NWS

We’re up at our place near Gore about 20 times throughout the year. My wife has come around to the fact that it’s not a cold and snowy place. Spring and summer get just as warm as down here and there’s plenty to do. Fall is spectacular. Winter usually means three months of white ground, as it should. It’s an adjustment but you’re not giving up a four season climate. Economic opportunity, especially within the park itself, is a different story though.

I don’t know much about them but believe some of the western mountain states have lower costs of living than the Carolinas.
-
No, wound up turning down that job as my wife couldn’t pull the trigger on moving to Maine. I’m in financial services and have been fortunate but still envious of the climate and lifestyle up there. You in law enforcement?
-
It’s too bad you’d have to compromise on one of those points. I think out west living near elevation can be the best of all worlds but it’s certainly a big move, especially in retirement.
