Man that SER ain't gonna just give up like that, lol Not this winter!

Whoa boy. Well, I think we're gonna have to learn to be okay with this. I mean seriously--for our own mental/spiritual health! I mean yes we don't know everything about the future (only what the trend has been up to this date), but if this is coming/gonna get worse...we have to learn to be okay. It may not be worth getting upset about (or even giving too much thought to)...otherwise we'll be living in a dread of "terrifying" trends and such creating the illusion of some objectively bad thing coming that isn't really objectively bad. My guess is if, say, a decade from now, snow chances are where they are now or worse...we would have gotten used to that reality (by force--because literally nothing would've happened, and things could be worse by then!). Might be time to kinda distance ourselves y'all, lol

Yeah now I'm just a layman in weather...so this kind of thing I just can't square with the idea of a warmer base state. Wouldn't that mean warmer everywhere then...or just here? Lol

Are they at a higher elevation? Sheesh...this winter has to be anomaly category. I mean then we talk about the base you-know-what being overall warmer then we see this mess--and they're one the west coast by the dang Pacific! It's supposed to be global **** not "just warm on the EC", lol

Oh it's definitely the worst unless we get more than flurries at best on Saturday. Even our record low snowfall year of 1949-50 had 0.5 inches by this date...and we up here sitting at 0.2, lol Mercy

Yep just as wrong as it could be, lol But you'd think this time we don't circle back to another nina but at least a warm neutral (as somebody in our sub said earlier).

Yeah I didn't really mean that literally. Now tbh, I'm still learning about longwave maps and such, so I saw blue over us and orange north of us and thought "hey a better look!" But I was speaking more in general though--2018 was more of what I had in mind. When we had all that blocking 3 weeks too late!

Let me ask you this (and my apologies if this has been discussed already): Is the SER a direct result of these SSTs...or is that driven by something else? Someone answered earlier it was a nina thing, but given how strong it's been I was wondering if those warm waters were a cause.

I'd like a copyright on that last one--let that be my valuable contribution for this winter

Personally I don't mind it TOO much--it's the atmospheric trolling (that is, getting a look then we couldn't get all winter) that is rather annoying, haha

With the number of times this has happened the last 8 years...you can argue persistence...you know it's coming

Ohhh that SER...makes you wish somebody could get a huge atmospheric glove beat the daylights out of it, lol Now, here's what I'm wondering: How much of what we've seen with the stout SER typical Nina climo, and how much is just something anomalous? And you have to wonder with our base...ya know...will wall-to-wall SER even in late Dec/January become more of a norm?
