  1. Yeah scattered downpours popping in southern NJ, so hopefully a couple of them will hit us this evening.
  2. Yeah it doesn't look great for our area, but we can hope to get lucky with a heavy downpour. If that happens it probably won't be until the early evening hours too.
  3. Yeah RGEM has been consistent in getting more significant rain amounts further to the east. Hopefully it will be right.
  4. Hoping to get at least a half inch today to give the gardens a good watering, but obviously there's reason to be concerned. Some models continue to show the more significant rain staying to the north and west. Convection is hard to predict though, so we'll see. At least we have another chance on wednesday. Hopefully this will be the week that we finally get some desperately needed rain.
  5. RGEM just came in looking great, but HRRR says the significant rain will stay to the northwest. As Forky said this is a tough one to predict. I'm hoping tomorrow won't be a disappointment since we're in desperate need of rain.
  6. The heavy downpour missed me just a couple miles to the south. Just a moderate shower here that wasn't enough to water anything. Hopefully we'll get a decent soaking on monday like most models show.
  7. 12z Euro pretty good for monday too. A half inch to inch for a lot of the area. Good to see the models looking better for monday ... hopefully it'll hold.
  8. CMC looks good for monday with an inch of rain for a good part of the area. We can hope. GFS not as impressed but not too bad. I'm hoping we can pull off at least a decent half inch soaking for the gardens. We're in desperate need ... crazy that my tomato plants have gotten only 1 watering from rain since I planted them at the beginning on May.
  9. Yeah it's much better out there today. Can't smell smoke anymore and a lot of sun is getting through. Still not good air quality, but it's getting down to a low enough level that's it's more of a concern for sensitive groups. I did do yardwork/gardening yesterday and the smoke didn't cause me to have any symptoms, but obviously it wasn't a good idea to do intense exercise outdoors so I cancelled my run. I will go for my run this afternoon though since it's much better out there.
  10. I agree. It's crazy that my county still isn't in abnormally dry. On the edge of it on that map, but we should be well into the abnormally dry category. In May we had only 1 day with significant rain here (May 20th about .75), and the ground is absolutely parched now. Lawns that haven't been watered have burned out. If it doesn't change soon we're heading towards a terrible drought this summer. Hoping for a decent rainfall early next week, but it isn't looking that impressive. Last night's Euro did give us a decent half inch to three quarters of an inch rainfall. I'm hoping we can pull that off to give the gardens a decent watering, but some other models are not as bullish.
  11. Yeah it's really something out there. I was just out there doing some gardening a yardwork in this smoke. Never seen anything like this. A very cool sight with the moon being a red-pink color.
  12. Just some sprinkles here as the horrendously dry situation continues. I don't think I've ever seen so much brown grass this early in the season. Having to water the garden often to keep it in decent shape. The Euro is showing a decent amount of scattered activity on friday, so hoping to see a downpour then. Still probably just a slight chance though. Hopefully a more meaningful rainfall early next week.
  13. We really need the rain, but not a lot of hope for this week. The activity this week looks very isolated (mainly tuesday, thursday and friday). Hoping to get hit by a downpour, but it's only a slight chance. As SACRUS said, maybe we'll finally get into better rain potential early next week. A week away though so obviously too early to be confident about it.
  14. I was at the Mets game tonight. Got home a little while ago and the ground still is very dry, so we must've gotten almost nothing here. Frustrating. At Citi Field the game was delayed by 90 minutes but the storm just barely missed. A nice lightning show just slightly off in the distance but just very light rain. I did see a nice rainbow when the light rain was coming to an end.
  15. Yeah that map doesn't make much sense to me. I have no idea how my county isn't in the abnormally dry. Here we had one day of rain the entire month of May. Only three quarters of an inch for the whole month. The ground is absolutely parched and the grass is burning out already. It definitely is abnormally dry here. Sadly there still isn't any meaningful rain in sight. I will have to keep watering the vegetable garden every other day.
  16. I believe that big rain was actually the last day of April. I know here we've had only 1 day the whole month in which we got significant rain (May 20th).
  17. Here the 1 rainy day we had in May delivered only about three quarters of an inch. The ground is absolutely parched now.
  18. Some widely scattered activity with the backdoor front late friday into saturday, but other than that no rain in sight. Only 1 day of rain for the whole month of May ... brutal. The grass is already starting to burn out and we'll have to keep watering gardens frequently to keep them going. Horrible.
  19. It's a big outdoor holiday weekend, so I'm glad it's going to be dry. I don't want rain messing up our cookouts. I do wish we could get rain after the holiday weekend, but as Stormlover said the long range looks dry unfortunately. The ground is going to be horrendously dry next week and we'll be desperate for rain by the end of the week. Hopefully something will pop up.
  20. Glad the high pressure is going to do the job and keep the rain well south of us for the holiday weekend, but the bad thing is it's really drying out again. Would love to see rain after the holiday weekend, but right now next week looks dry. It's back to watering the garden often.
  21. I don't blame you for that. I want to cook outside over the holiday weekend too. As a gardener I usually root for the rain, but I don't want it to ruin a holiday weekend. So I'm glad the models are now showing it dry, and hopefully that will hold.
  22. Thank goodness we got a good soaking here saturday. Amazing what it did for the plants in the vegetable garden ... they had a major growth spurt the last 2 days after that rain. You can water very often, but it's not the same as getting a soaking from the rain. Unfortunately though as you said, it will be back to watering soon. The soil is still moist here, but it will dry out quickly during the week.
  23. 0.58" here. Rain is coming to an end now. HRRR says the rain for the rest of the day will be mostly NYC and east, and radar looks that way too. The models that had big rain totals well into NJ are going to be wrong, but at least this wasn't a bust. It was enough to give the good watering that we desperately needed.
  24. Yeah I think so. I'm up to 0.35" now. A nice steady moderate rain out there. High end moderate at times. It's looking as if this is our rain, late morning into early afternoon. Then mid to late afternoon it's mostly to the east. Heavier amounts for Long Island, but I'm glad we're getting a solid half inch here. Finally a nice watering for the garden for the first time this month. Maybe the only one for the whole month too.
  25. Radar does look pretty good. The downpours down in Burlington and Atlantic counties look as if they're on track to hit our area.
