    PDII absolutely was historic here and the January storm was comparable to it in this region. And yes, an 18” storm is a very big deal and a high-end MECS at the very least. It’s been a good winter in the area including yours. Vodka cold for weeks on end following an 18” storm what more can you ask for without getting into fantasies?

    I was one of those kids back in the day. Sledding would be a disaster, but ice skating might work.

    ORH is already near 50 to date. My part of town is a bit less but still up there. I think 80-90" is in reach.

    If this is anything like Feb 2007, then I imagine the glacier as a slippery sheet of ice that you can slide on.

    A very enticing setup possible around mid-month (h/t to psuhoffman in the mid-Atlantic forum). We've got a classic west-based -NAO but also a -PNA and trough over much of the Rockies and Plains, which can keep things from getting too suppressed and possibly bring a big one up the coast. I'd keep a close eye on this window.

    I vaguely remember that cold snap, but missing the triple phaser ruined it for me.

    Do you remember February 2007? It had a very similar situation to this. I was a lot younger but I remember around 5" of snow/sleet compacted and it was very hard to shovel, and the ground became a slippery sheet of ice, and was also followed by a long stretch of cold. As I recall, it basically had the impact of a 10-15" snowstorm. This latest one seemed a bit bigger but similar.

    I'm about to head to MD early this coming week and so I'll have a chance to see this glacier for myself.

    Yeah I was just gonna say, this is a textbook example of a blizzard. I don’t know why they’re hesitating.

    It was one of my favorite winters, right up there with 2002-03 for those in the lucky spots and just below the top tier seasons for everyone else. BWI ended up with 39”. I’d be shocked if there aren’t any more storms to track in the coming weeks. It’s the best winter in at least a decade, and maybe since 2014.

    That’s because 2013-14 (especially early on) was very frustrating for the immediate metros while those who live N/W kept getting buried.

    I’m going to guess 2013-14. Although even Dec 2013 had a late month blowtorch after a very good start north and west. ETA: Dec 2013 ended up slightly AN in the airports, so I think the last time all three months were BN was in fact 2009-10. And before that, 2002-03.

    Both my street and parking lot are still packed with snow. And it still feels like navigating little mountains whenever I try to move around.

    Man I’m disappointed. I would’ve liked at least a moderate storm out of this, but I guess this one won’t be it. Congrats Cape, this one might be yours.

    I headed to Berkshire East for the first time yesterday after having a rare day off. It was moderately cold (in the teens) but the snow was excellent.

    If it makes it to the top 10 in Boston and Worcester, then it’s historic. A 20” storm is no joke, even if it’s not Feb 1978. Maybe for your area it was just a major storm but this was a very big deal overall, not to mention how widespread this was from Texas to Maine, and how bitterly cold it was.

    I remember when Baltimore had more 20"+ snowstorms than Boston (with the disclaimer that Logan is a lousy spot and it missed many 20"+ events that hit other parts of the city). But the big ones have really accelerated and looks like this will be another one to add. And man is it well-deserved after the last 3-5 awful years. Everyone won this time.
