  1. Past hour
  2. No those southerly winds are much worse, if we get a westerly wind we will get nice 100 degree dry heat, which is much better than 75 degree dew points
  3. Wow! It was indeed the hottest July on record for both Virginia and West Virginia! Maryland finished with its 2nd hottest July on record! Rather pedestrian (for this era) 19th place overall for the CONUS.
  4. actually that's not true Chris, on August 7, 1918 Newark hit 105 and NYC hit 104 August 2001 gets honorable mention for hitting 103. We have a long way to go to match the kinds of heatwaves we had back then.
  5. How many people live at the top of Blue Hill? And Jerry was giving me s*** for using Worcester... Lolz
  6. Meh Central to northern Queens heat is normal, it better make it to 100 all the way down here, otherwise it's not historic, it's just normal heat
  7. There is still a bit of work to go before we can even begin to think about the tropics heating up. We'll start seeing storms form more consistently, only because we're headed towards peak climo but there is alot of work to be done if we're going to see a significant uptick. Unless of course every wave that lasts like 7 hours gets named.
  8. It was indeed the 4th hottest July on record for the Commonwealth! My estimate was pretty much spot-on.
  9. the tropics usually get busy for us after August 20th and more likely in September-- this is how I remember 1995 and 1999 The only hot summer I remember with a tropical event in August is 1991, which came at the tale end of a really hot summer
  10. It would be nice to keep the super high dew points away permanently, I can't deal with 75+ dew points.
  11. It’s a little early for put up or shut up since we’re not even at peak yet, but next week does need to produce something.
  12. dry heat is easier to tolerate.... do you remember anything about the heat in August 2001, I remember it as only feeling hot for that one day.
  13. The choice was between super high dewpoints and heat or dry, coolish weather and some smoke. Obviously I'd take today over those other two lol
  14. Or how about no crazy heat like we used to get in August. Some people like spending time outdoors without feeling like they're gonna melt.
  15. This has been an impressive stretch. Got down to 53° here last night. Need something to develop before it can become a threat. A fair amount of wasted potential in an increasingly favorable TC genesis environment so far this month. But next week should be a whole different ballgame with a more favorable environment for the latest wave.
  16. we actually want 100 degrees with westerly flow, not a disgusting southerly wind with high humidity... onshore flow is far worse and on top of that low 90s is really boring, if it's going to be hot make it historic and fun, not low 90s mediocre heat. CC has made our extreme heat less extreme and more humid, so the climate models were wrong about that for years before they *corrected*.
  17. Yes exactly and on top of that the air pollution is gone, that was the best outcome of the entire week.
  18. Records:Highs:EWR: 101 (2001)NYC: 99 (2001)LGA: 98 (2001)JFK: 99 (2001) wow we came this close to hitting 100 on multiple days in August 2001
  19. This is ideal weather. Sorry I have to disagree with you about the smoke, smoke is air pollution and shortens life expectancy, I would take this weather over smoke. I would even take heat over smoke, because you can use an air conditioner to stop the heat, there's nothing you can do to stop smoke unless you wear a mask. Which is what they have been recommending in the Midwest.
  20. Yes lots of innovations in the near future, I find it frustrating that we took so many steps backwards during and after the 80s we have a lot of ground to make up
  21. Looks like Blue Hill was a top 10 July for warmth. Also one of the more humid months recorded.
  22. Getting dark ar5pm is depressing, especially if it's cold and a bitter cold wind is gusting.
