wxmeddler Posted December 29, 2010 Share Posted December 29, 2010 GFS MOS has surface temperatures across Northern Maryland at 33-36 degrees for the duration of the event. However that layer is pretty shallow and most area's 950mb temps are 30-32 degrees with the exception of areas south of I-70. From Rt. 50 to I-70 SFC temps are between 34-37 with 950mb temps between 32 and 33 degrees. The problem that is showing up on the Bufkit files is that in all areas there is a warm punch around 770 mb that's about +3°C ( it even shows up as far north as Harrisburg,PA) So, while it may look like snow.. it is in fact most likely sleet/RA of some-kind and ending off as snow.
