Had another face cord delivered for the second time this year. The past 2 years I’ve only gone through one face cord. Breakfast casseroles stocked and today will be dinner prep so I can wrap it in foil and set it on the coals to heat. My camping grill broke and I’m sure I won’t find any left. No generator, but a small 250w solar powered camping one, but it can be charged with my car if there’s no sun. It’s perfect for small appliances and keeping the internet on. The support pup now has backup shoes and socks and another waterproof coat. Kitties have new high rise beds for easier access to fireplace warmth to keep them from fighting for the coveted place on the hearthstone. Plastic is pulled out to section off the living room. Laundry done. Necessities stocked. I’m about as ready as I can be with mom still in the hospital and preparing for 2 places separated by 3+hrs ^_^

The 06Z GFS continues the incredible cold streak after the storm. Hickory is still below freezing for the entirety of the storm and the week to follow into the next winter storm. Low temps each night are dangerously cold.

Yeah I think in general this is not being emphasized by the NWS, but in time they will.

I honestly have no idea what’s gonna happen this weekend. Sleet storm? Devastating ice? Lulls in precipitation making it a minor event?

My gut says no lulls for us. Models and even real time radar will not pick up the low level moisture getting squeezed out. These “dry” slots aren’t dry and they’re nightmare fuel for the foothills. We’re going to have the most efficient type of ice accretion method pumping in those lulls — freezing drizzle.

I'm gonna be all about some verification over the weekend - and in to next week, too.

Got my fingers crossed that we get more sleet than ZR, and/or CAD strength overcomes warm nose, that precip totals come in less than advertised.

I like a good winter weather event, but not destructive ones.

Hope all y'all are prepared.  I am looking forward to your reports. Be safe.

Well guys. We made it through Helene. This is starting to have similar vibes in terms of widespread/historic impacts. I’m still hoping it will pan out we get more sleet than freezing rain. But, if not, been a pleasure tracking with you guys. Hope there’s a solid plan in place to restore the grid/power. Just hard knowing that Raleigh/Charlotte will get a lot of the initial attention.
