For the record regarding the main indices for today’s wintry event:

- The prior -PNA rose to the more favorable neutral PNA (-0.1)

- AO -1.9, one day after a short-term minimum of -2.2 was hit

- NAO -1.2, one day after a short-term minimum of -1.3 was hit

- MJO likely was inside the circle phase 8 (probably won’t know for sure for a couple of days)

- +EPO

- -WPO

Regardless of the other indicies, the -AO  is always the savior for us. Many times over, when it dips down good things always happen around here. Pattern suppression for the win.

Still snowing. Looks close to 0.5” here. Great comeback from where we were at about 5:00. Beautiful out, just took a walk enjoying the cold, snow and Christmas lights around the neighborhood. Roads icing up, going to be terrible in morning. Like I said, still snowing at the moment and looks like continuing light snow for a while

Definitely over estimated the amount of snow on the ground last night. Measured just 0.30” this morning, I’ll blame first snow excitement lol. 26.8 out and very pretty regardless. Southern Va got a serious jackpot, swath of 6-8” from the mountains to the coast. Great storm gor them

It looked like more than that with your video and looks more impressive than ours. We have a ground cover just about 4 miles N/NE of RDU. I would say 0.25-.3 looks about right for our area. I wonder what RDU was officially? I haven’t checked.

It’s possible it was a little more last night but I didn’t measure. Most everything non paved is covered so it’s really pretty regardless

That would explain the slightly higher totals Raleigh through Franklin county. Raleigh proper definitely got more than the airport and lake

Yep Raleigh downtown and east definitely did better than the airport. I wish there was a downtown climo station.

It was obvious when they were showing live shots last night. Raleigh proper and points SE have been in a rip off zone relative to RDU/ north for a good while so good for them.

This sort of reminds me on a lesser scale of the Christmas night 2010ish storm (albeit completely different synoptic situation) where Raleigh proper scored big versus RDU/Bull City.
