I think messaging from WLOS/WYFF could be stronger. Think most local emergency offices are putting out strong messages on social media. But, there’s information overload on FB. I think people see confusion and just take it as no one knows.

I think messaging needs to be stronger on the power outage likelihood and the cold that follows

Half the public still thinks we are getting a snow storm locally...

I still see you getting a half in of ice...

Yeah, I know. Duke came in before Helene and upgraded everything on the main line including new poles. Brand new wire and brand new transformers. They been working the right of ways the past Month cutting back tree growth near the lake and the high tension lines coming over the mountains as well as feeder lines.

Yeah hopefully but then you've got to worry about the transfer station and people driving on this crap that shouldn't be out in it.

Haywood emc is usually pretty good at keeping our right of way cut back pretty good. The only thing that worries me is Duke powers transmission lines   Duke sucks at keeping up maintenance on those lines.

Yeah im on Haywood emc also. After the storm they went gang busters on clearing for lines and putting new lines up for just about everything.

They did a lot of clearing after Helene up on this mountain but there's still too many trees near lines for me to feel comfortable at all. I am usually the last one to get stressed or paranoid about things but that forecast has me both.

GFS continues with a decent front end thump of snow in the mid to northern tier of western piedmont/foothills NC counties, including McDowell, Burke, Catawba, and points to their NE. I’m really hoping that verifies. Should be pretty to watch fall late Saturday afternoon/evening.
