Amazing how quiet it gets around here when we are having one of our top major events of the winter currently in progress and unfolding in the High Country with more upslope snow into Saturday evening per the NAM. :snowing:

sadly most of us dont live in the nc high country lol. and those that do are out in the snow haha :snowman:

Still having some snow showers. It's hard to tell, but I'd say we've gotten right at 3"...definitely more than I thought I'd get.

That sounds great! I went to App State for 2 years before transferring to NC State and missed out on 2 blizzards in Boone, 1 occurred during Xmas break and another occurred during Spring break, I am just a snow repellent I guess! :axe: I do miss Boone, great area. I especially miss Daniel Boone Inn.

Looks like winds will be more perpendicular to the mountain ranges with the clipper Saturday night, esp after dark. The "traditional" areas may be favored with and right behind the clipper. Probably not as much snow overall, with less moisture, but high snow to liquid ratios should help in the mountains.

Today was interesting with the wind direction as some earlier posts indicate. Streamers liked to form in the wake of some of the mountains. The lapse rates also helped maintain that situation. In fact the lapse rates helped make up for less than perfect wind direction in "traditional" areas too.

Pretty interesting streamer going on right now in NE TN. It's oriented from SW to NE and has been persistent and had grown a bit in the last hour. I don't know about the topography in this area that could be causing this. The wind is blowing pretty decent out of the SW in that area.

Good loop view of it right here..

Yeah I'm just north of there but no flakes here, weird setup indeed. The mountains do run from SW to NE in this area from Rogersville into Kingsport. Cold 24 degrees here with the high of 26 set at midnight, definately colder than forecast.

I wound up in Johnson City as this was occurring, and it was odd to drive from partly sunny skies in Erwin to snow falling in Johnson City. That does not happen very often. The overall flow was a bit odd today though, as everything seemed to be moving SW-NE as you mentioned.

Another small streamer has set up almost in the exact same location. TRI is reporting light snow as of the 10pm observation.
