==discussion==

A deepening low pressure system from the southern plains states is

expected to track northeast across the Lower Great Lakes into

Southern Quebec on Tuesday. This low will be moving along a line

dividing mild and fairly moist air to the south and much colder

Arctic air in place over Northern Ontario. While there is still

considerable uncertainty as to its exact track, indications from

computer models suggest a northeastward path right over Southern

Ontario, resulting in primarily a rain or wet snow event for areas

near Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. There is the potential for

significant amounts of snow along with the risk of freezing

precipitation further north in areas extending from Lake Huron and

Georgian Bay into Eastern Ontario including the National Capital

Region.

A change in the track may have a large effect on how much rain or

snow, or both a particular region could receive. If this low follows

a track further south than currently expected, there will be

potential for an accumulating snow event along with significantly

lower temperatures than currently forecast on Tuesday for much of

Southern Ontario near the Lower Great Lakes as well.

Environment Canada is closely monitoring this situation.

The public is advised to monitor future forecasts and warnings as

warnings may be required or extended.

Please monitor the latest forecasts and warnings from Environment

Canada at WWW.WEATHEROFFICE.GC.CA

Another storm on the way?

You'd love Ottawa. I went to school there at Carleton U. for awhile. We had one day where it was -16F in mid afternoon with strong wind and blowing and drifting snow. They did have a complex underground tunnel system between buildings. This was the mid 80's....

Not too shabby here today... only 7F out there ....9 was the highest I believe.

Damnnnn. And I thought 3f here was cold. -22f! That's crazy!

Lived in Ottawa for nearly 6 years and loved it. Friendly people overall and community atmosphere, despite being the second largest city in Ontario and the fourth largest in canada. And the climate...one could write poetry, apart from the freezing rain of course of which they get a lot. Amazing how differently the people in Ottawa deal with winter compared to Toronto. For example, it could be 0F without the wind and people will still go out skating on the canal. If it were in the teens in Toronto people wouldn't go out unless they absolutely had to.

It is a great area...absolutely nothing they don't have in terms of culture, sports, recreation, etc....helps to the the national capital. Not too big to be an overwhelmingly large urban area like NYC. Gatineau Hills so close by... obviously fantastic winters, very comfortable summers....

If it was me and I ever had to work in Toronto, I'd suffer the commute and live around Barrie maybe... Just not a lot going for YYZ in the snow department...wrong side of a lake, too far west for Nor'easters, too far south it seems for the inland events that plaster Ottawa.

Of course maybe this is why the settlers built a city there...odd people liked the fact that it was a more temperate climate.

wrong side of the lake, that about sums it up nicely :axe:

Well the period ending around next weekend will complete about two weeks of normal to below normal wx, so it did yield some fruit, so to speak. Hopefully we get another shot in early February...traditionally our snowiest and most prolific month here in ENY anyway. -12 here today was nothing to sneeze at.

Starting to look like that Sudden Stratospheric Warming event is a bust. 10 day models show torch after torch. This winter is on a fast track to bad news.

Lake Erie is 33 degrees after the last 2 days of frigid cold air. I am so ready for spring! Once Lake freezes I give up on any possibility of a big storm. I am hoping the next 10 days is 50 and sunny then 20 with a huge LES snowstorm! :lmao:

I really don't think the lake is going to freeze this year.
