KLGA hit 100 in JULY 2005 and had 3 consecutive days of 100+ in early AUG 2006.I dont believe KJFK or KNYC has had 2 consecutive years.KNYC had 2 out of 3 years though.1993 and 1995.

KEWR had 3 consecutive years I believe 1993,1994 and 1995 they reached 100 IIRC.

KJFK and KNYC would be historic if they both hit 100 in the next couple of weeks.

I wonder how LGA had three consecutive days over 100 in 2006 when NYC didnt even have one lol.

KNYC has had a cool bias from 2003 on for a multitude of reasons.I also recorded 3 consecutive days of 100 in AUG 2006.I had a sunrise temp of 88 one of those mornings.

The temperature sensor is in a terrible spot and one that has become progressively worse over the years....there is a ton of vegetation in the area....compare that to LGA which may also have a slight bias of being close to a busy airport and it may run a bit high. The other issue is that on extremely hot days or during heatwaves the city itself can be covered by a blanket of haze which is absent more so over Queens/Brooklyn and Newark....this can filter the sun a bit more.

According to the records I have, KNYC has had a number of consecutive-year triples,

though none in the past 50+ years.

1933: 102 on 7/31, 100 on 8/1

1934: 101 on 6/21

1936: 106/102 on 7/9-10

1937: 100/100 on 7/9-10 (yup. exactly one yr later)

1948: 103/101/100 on 8/26-28

1949: 102 on 7/4, 100 on 8/9

1952: 100 on 6/26

1953: 100/101 on 7/17-18, 100 on 8/31, 102 on 9/2

1954: 100 on 7/14, 100 on 7/31

1955: 100 on 7/22, 100 on 8/2, 100 on 8/5.

They also hit 99 on 6/14/56 and 100 on 7/21-22/57, so just missed 6 in a row. They did have 7 yr in 10 for 1948-57.

Wow, the 30s and the late 40s through mid 50s period was really hot! Lots of landfalling tropical systems including major hurricanes up here back then too!

Just going by memory, I know NYC had 100+ in 3 years out of 5 91-93-95 and then again in 99..... twice in 91, 3 times in 93, once in 95 and twice in 99.... JFK got there twice in 93 and once in 99..... now back in the 80s I believe they both got there once in 80 in August and once in 83 in September..... dont know if it was more than once either of those years though. They probably got there in 1977 when NYC hit 104 but I dont know if they got there any other year in the 70s or any other year at all besides 1966 when they got there three days in a row, including their all time record of 104.

The first half of the 1950s were horrible with those 100 degree readings and the awful winters that followed with little snowfall.NYC 106 temp is there all time high reached in 1936.LGA reached 107 in 1966 I believe. The 99 degrees on SEPT 11 1983 is the hottest SEPT temperature in nearly 60 years.I hope we do it this Friday.

Yes, and I think JFK hit 104 in July 1966, in the middle of a megaheatwave when they exceeded 100 three straight days, and reached 100 in 1983 also.

I seem to recall that August 1973 got to 99 a few times in KNYC and there were 100+'s in the area.

JFK actually had 10 95+ days in 2010 for their record.

The 11 yr cycle is alive and well lol.... what happened in 1944; it really stands out as the others in the list are much more recent. They also stand out for # of 90 degree days from the pre-1950 time period. Most remember 1944 only because of the Great Hurricane; they forget how hot it was that summer (and into September.)

1944 enso started out weakly negative and became weakly positive during the Summer but dropped back to negative again by 1945...

1944 -4 -2 0 2 3 4 2 0 -2 -6 -7 -8

1944 and 1955 had heavy rains from a tropical system...1999 also from Floyd...

This is the first time since the summers of 1936-37 that NYC hit 100 or higher on consecutive days in 2 consecutive summers.

Wait, I thought you had said that NYC had never been 100 or higher in 2 consecutive summers?

I should have said in my lifetime but I didnt. The 1950s actually had 4 consecutive summers of 100+ readings. These past 2 summers are the first since then.

Wow, the 1950s were interesting times indeed....

1) not extremely snowy but the heaviest snow tended to occur in March

2) extremely hot summers, both hot early and hot late

3) lots of east coast tropical weather

If the drought conditions continue over the Southern and Central Plans through next summer we will see another 100+ reading summer. I also believe that NYC could go over 100 again this summer, looking at the monthly ECMWF forecast;there are some really hot periods in the last two runs.

This looks like a replay of the 50s, minus the snowy Marches, the active east coast hurricane season and the mild winters lol. We had 5/6 summers with 100+ temps back then.

How about 1950's + Neg. NAO"? Or 1955-6 repetitively?
