  1. i used to live in Winnipeg, Manitoba… while it will be cold here, Winnipeg, and points northwest into Alaska are in a whole two league levels away from us..if we get to -40 degrees with 50 mph gusts whistling between 20 story buildings…then you will understand.
  2. That night I was playing in a band up in Baltimore, gig was over at 2 am ( yes, people actually came out to see us play) and I drove home to Arnold MD in the snow. Baltimore beltway was covered in 6 to 12 inches of snow. Yes, much lightning.. but I had never truly never experienced white out conditions before or after. Most of the time I could see the ground right in front of my ford van.. like 10 or 15 feet away.. but there were moments where it was like someone poured white paint on my windshield..I could not even see any of my hood just outside the windshield, it was blinding white, and it only flashed blind for a few seconds at a time..but I had to stop full on the road and wait. The switch to seeing 15 feet away to nothing was instantaneous, it was like the whiteout happened when the concentration of snow in the air reached a critical mass, there was nothing gradual about the switch. More than lightning, the instant switching to seeing 15 feet away to the windshield being a lit up like a white wall… and then back to being able to see the ground…. that was the real shocker.

I’m kind of into symphony too… member Florida Symphony Orchestra, Winnipeg symphony, Alabama Symphony (1st violin, and Associated Concertmaster) have played in Richmond (Va) symphony, Virginia Symphony, Tuscaloosa Symphony (assistant concertmaster) Roanoke Symphony, West Virginia Symphony, Wheeling symphony, Washington Bach Consort, National symphony, National Art Gallery Orchestra… and more..
  9. I got into my car after work, flurries had been forecast all day for that nite in Annapolis. Turned on the radio , and heard paper ripping. DJ says, hear that paper ripping? That’s the forecast we have been giving all day for flurries. We are going to get over a foot of snow, and it’s going to start in about… 1 hour.
  10. Graupel currently falling in Salisbury MD
  11. What goes around comes around…
  12. A volcano just erupted in Iceland. Is there any thought how such an event might influence our weather this winter? https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-67756413.amp https://x.com/spahn711/status/1736881737928433857?s=46&t=K9uUZ2ybIyt0zkGgj22-dA

  15. Old Imperial Russia also owned Alaska too…
  16. History major here from Maryland university, minor in Russian History. Lots of reading since, and as a professional symphony violinist, lots of friends from Russia. What motivates Putin ? He’s of the old USSR, looking to restore the Imperial Empire. Russia historically is a paranoid country…any threat needs to be wiped out. That’s you and me, btw and he can wipe us out …. He has been majorly upgrading the Russian Nuclear arsenal and delivery systems, he has been preparing for this moment for years. We have been sleeping here in the west, we are still sleeping. Ukraine is the breadbasket of Asia, it’s like Kansas Nebraska etc. it’s also very close to Moscow. It’s toast. Again. We don’t like it when Russia puts missiles in Cuba, Ukraine wants to join NATO. Putin is using the exact same excuses to invade as Hitler Did. That is, that there is a large Russian citizenry in Ukraine clamoring to be saved from persecution. Totally disingenuous and false. and the Russians there mostly were because they settled when Russia took over the Ukraine. He will use that excuse for all the breakaway Republics.(Breakaway only in the sense that they reclaimed their own independence back from when they were conquered by Russia). why the move into Ukraine now, and the testing of the waters by annexing Crimea during the Obama Administration? Well, during the Obama administration, Putin invaded the Ukraine, and The response from the Obama Administration? They sent blankets. Keep in mind, when the Ukraine broke away from Russia, they had one third (5,000 warheads) of the Russian Nuclear arsenal. They had the delivery systems, and the expertise to Use them. They voluntarily gave them up, in exchange for security guarantees from the United States and other countries. you tell me, what was that agreement worth? the lesson? Get and it keep your own nuclear deterrent. Sweden got the message, for example. It’s my understanding they had a nuclear weapon development program that was at the cusp of producing weapons. They mothballed it. It’s not mothballed any more. (what the media doesn’t tell us is astounding) Now we have Biden, with his 50 years of demanding inaction in face of aggression. Go back and look at original sources, at his history, not what the media doesn’t tell you! He will Stand up to Putin? He’s like the kid with knees shaking and spineless that gets pushed up by others to confront the schoolyard bully. Tough talk but a house of cards. And everyone in the world knows it. We have elected Neville Chamberlain the second. We are in for some really bad times here in the USA.
  17. I’ve played concerts with Victor Borge, (Alabama symphony Orchestra) he was in his 80’s and was still doing concerts (he was in top form), he said he couldn’t afford to stay at home…
  18. In fairness, he said it (that hard core winter cold being over for the winter after the potential event Feb 14, 15) was not his forecast, but it was what the models were showing, and he tended to agree with them.
  19. One of my Teachers went to school with Peter at Juilliard, said no one had an inkling as to what he would become…
