  1. 03-04 was even better out here. Very cold with 35.5" total.
  2. Winter 04-05 wasn't terrible out this way. Got 7" in the January Miller B storm and 32" total for the winter.
  3. Feels really nice out currently 65 dew 53.
  4. I think you will be fine given how far off the coast the actual eye will be. I was in an ocean front hotel on the top floor as Hurricane Bob came by OC, just about 90 miles off the coast and a very strong hurricane as it passed by (Cat 2 or low end 3). Me and the family were a bit squeemish about staying but since the projected path kept it off the coast we decided to stay. A bit of a nail biter as it progressed by but overall no real problems other than a dripping ceiling in several spots. As the eye passed by the strongest winds were blowing offshore which kept the waves/surge under control too. Overall a memorable fun weather event for this weenie. Here is a recap of that 1991 hurricane that I posted in our hurricane thread a couple of weeks ago: "I was in Ocean City for Hurricane Bob. There were big Hurricane Warning signs erected on Rt. 50 heading into O.C. trying to persuade folks not to enter. Evacuations weren't mandatory though. It was a very strong storm for O.C. with a lot of wind driven rainfall. Our top floor condo was dripping water in a few spots from the ceiling. I think the winds were mostly offshore at the height of the storm which spared the city from major wave damage. Winds were strong and gusty. The metal railing on our balcony was making wailing sounds during the worst of the winds. Of course we had the Weather Channel on most of the time back when watching the WC was kind of cool. Edit - I forgot to mention how cool it was watching the sky change as the storm was approaching from the south during the day. The wind and rain was mostly a late night and early morning event."
  5. The hurricane clouds look awesome this evening fringed in gold setting sun.
  6. It's times like these that make me think less and less about a move to Florida.
  7. I always use 4:1 in my hummingbird feeder and get the birds all summer, I still have them around now. My feeder is on a hook attached to the railing of my deck and I have never had any racoon problems with it. Plus it is a good 15 feet above ground as well.
  8. 56 for the low, 77 for the high.
  9. 63F at the moment like a fall day today. 1.38" precip since yesterday evening.
  10. Just had a pretty decent storm with a lot of t&l and heavy rain not much wind. Looks to be another cell coming in behind it if it holds together and holds course.
  11. Not quite as hot today as yesterday. High yesterday 92 high today just 87. Now let's get some storms cookin'
  12. Damn the cicadas get noisy around my way in the evenings near sundown. It is like a continuous barrage of sound out there.
  13. I can make out towers building to the west and occasional flash. Hope it can hold together.
  14. It did some of both. Looped south of Long Island and stalled for a while.
  15. Photos of newspapers out of Baltimore of the Feb 78 blizzard (yes, there were blizzard conditions in Baltimore and the surrounding suburbs)
  16. Do you remember the Feb. '78 storm (the one that really clobbered southern New England)? For me that was the snow drought breaker storm. It was pretty cool how the wrap around bands from that primarily new england storm reached back into parts of northern and northeastern MD and Delaware including Baltimore. Drifting was monumental with the dry fluffy snow being whipped by easily 50mph gusts for a good part of the Monday. It dropped a quick foot++ of snow on Baltimore, more as you went northeast, and with a rather sharp cutoff to the southwest which pretty much crapped out by the time you reached DC leaving them mostly high and dry. I think MattieG would have loved that one in particular.
  17. Continuous thunder to my southwest and darkening skies.
  18. I want August to feature a wetter pattern with thunderstorms similar to last July and August. Do you see that happening?
  19. I am pretty sure the Carroll County Airport runs high which is probably where WUSA9 gets the reading. Sensor needs to be cleaned and recalibrated. I mentioned before that it tends to run as much as 5-7 degrees too high. I recorded a high of 93 today.
  20. 8.84" precip for the month. Amazing total and closing in on last year's 11.09". Synoptics seem a little different though. I hope August can kick it up a notch and be more like last July synoptically.
  21. .71 from a rather vicious storm this afternoon it was quite spectacular. Many trees down and road closures.
  22. Impressive winds and lightning/thunder.
