  1. It is actually a remarkable shovel. I have used it probably a good 6 years now, keep it out just like you see in the pic all winter long (after the first snowfall whenever that occurs). No signs of rust or anything and like you alluded to it looks kind of brand new.
  2. I used to have a problem with my large porch mat blowing off into the garden on really windy days like this. But not after plunking down a 16 lb. cement rabbit. Now it doesn't budge. I also have a shoe scraper on the other side which isn't all that heavy but seems to be enough for that side att. If not I will get another rabbit for that side. Weather related a few snow flurries ~ 38F.
  3. Storm total so far is 1.36" which is more than what was being predicted for this area nearing start time. We were supposed to be "fringed" with less than an inch.
  4. Rain changing to wet snow att.
  5. Very strong winds and whipping rain in my neighborhood around 8am but no damage that I know of.
  6. This will be an interesting storm to follow whatever it brings to Carroll County ..... rain, wind, ....................snow???? ........... I will be sure to add another bag of trash to the outside can to help weigh it down some
  7. Shakira in particular. In my mind I knew she had to be older than the 20 something she appeard to be on the big screen.
  8. March 29-30 Westminster recorded 32" damn. https://instaweatherinsights.wordpress.com/2007/03/28/palm-sunday-snowstorm-of-1942/
  9. I seem to recall Tom T was the first real met who was hired by WBAL. Before him they just had weather gals and guys who were more personality than experts on forecasting. Remember Rudy Miller? She was a great "weather gal" on WBAL but not a real met. She had a great smile and personality. That was when WBAL used Accu-weather to provide their forecasts.....late '70s.
  10. Don't know if you were around for it but '77 didn't suck for winter ambiance. Snow cover for most of January into early Feb because of the frigid temps which froze Chessie Bay to unprecedented level. There was also a decent Jan. storm around the 11th that dropped 5-6 inches in Baltimore.
  11. Oops, I even forgot one somehow. Feb 2014 at least out in this area (25.5") was greater in total snow than the Feb 83 storm.
  12. I was talking to some fellow weather geeks after the monster Feb 83 storm in these parts. Some were lamenting that we may not see a storm of that size again for the rest of our lives. But 96, 2003, 2010 x 3, and 2016 kicked that sentiment to the curb.
  13. With all of these storms something is bound to work out for some of us. Anecdotal but February 1972 was a wet stormy month in Baltimore with lots of rainfall but three of those storms produced heavy snow > 4 inches. Feb. 16th or so had a wild storm that went from driving rain to snow I had 6 inches in my neighborhood in under 3 hours. I believe Westminster did very well with 9-10 inches.... I'll take an active period over dry.
  14. Good grief are we going to be wet over the next few weeks or what? Still better to have a storm in the area than cold/warm and dry.
  15. It didn't stretch to Jan. 15. We had temps in the upper 50s from Jan. 11 - 13th. 40s on the 9th and 10th.
  16. You are likely thinking about the last week of Dec. 2017 into the first week of Jan. 2018. IMBY I recorded 6 days with highs below 20 ... 5 of them occurred between Jan 1 -7. One was on New Years Eve. I remained below freezing from Dec. 26 through Jan.8 which was an incredible stretch of below freezing weather. My lowest high temp was on Jan. 5 with a high of 13...Jan. 6 made it to 14......After the 8th things moderated and Jan. 2018 ended up +1.8F overall.
  17. After a light coating now sleet/zr.
  18. 12/04 - 0.75" 12/11 - 1.00" 12/16 - 1.75" 01/07 - 4.75" 01/08 - 0.25" TOTAL - 8.50"
  19. This storm was legit especially the last hour and a half. I am going with a final of 4.75". Considering I was above freezing for much of it by a degree or so I don't think I could have done any better than this.
