  1. Surprised to wake up to see 1.55 inches in the rain gauge. Nice. We needed it. Although, I have to admit, mushrooms are popping up everywhere, especially those sticky ones. Maybe a couple of weeks of dry weather could rid of them.
  2. Three days ago Chris Justice on WYFF talked about the possiblity of strong storms coming in around 1:00 on Friday, saying he thought the chances were at about 80%. Well, he was spot on. It's been raining for about 1 1/2 hours at my house. So far, we've gotten 1.45" and it's still coming down. I understand it's flooding in parts of Taylors. Temp down to 71.
  3. Getting a bad storm right now, and it looks like it might last a while.
  4. Nice 45 minute rain dumped 0.45”. Temp dropped from 94 to 77.
  5. Sitting on 10.20" as of 9:45. Was expecting much more yesterday afternoon and night. Glad we didn't get it.
  6. Looking at the radar, specifically the area of heavy moisture moving into the Midlands toward the S.C. beaches. Since thunderstorms are beginning to blow up, I am hoping it takes some energy from the upper level cutoff low. Could that diminish the heavy rain for the Upstate?
  7. I am about 1 mile from the entrance of Paris Mtn. State Park, just off State Park Rd, where it meets Mtn. Creek Rd. I am near Piedmont Park Fire Department. Edit to add, this is getting serious. We've gotten another 0.70" in the last 45 minutes. Radar and satellite show the cutoff upper level low just west of us is not moving. Train effect rains for hours to come. Trees fallling everywhere, including on I-85 south. It's going to be a long day and night.
  8. 50 degrees.Windy. Now up to 8.70”.
  9. Sitting on 4.60”. Noticed that it is 55 in Spartanburg and 75 in Anderson. That is a strong front.
  10. Right at 2” rain already. It’s going to be a wet week.
  11. Praying for Chris Justus as he and Cedrick keep us informed. Chris is the ultimate professional, as he has to be thinking about his family as the tornadoes pass so close to his home.
  12. Received this e-mail from Duke Energy. High winds and heavy rains could bring significant damage and outages. Here’s how we’re preparing. Severe weather is forecast for the Carolinas later this weekend and into Monday, including high winds, heavy rains and an increased risk of tornadoes. These conditions could also bring significant damage to trees, power lines and other electrical equipment. We recognize that this is already an extremely challenging time in our community. And the possibility of storm damage or power outages on top of everything else is hard to hear. That’s why we’re doing everything we can to prepare for this approaching weather and to restore any resulting outages as quickly as possible. We also encourage you to take whatever steps you can to prepare for the incoming weather conditions. See our website for helpful tips and information. You can also help protect your perishable foods with this helpful guidance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. If you do lose power, you can report your outage online or by texting OUT to 57801. While you’re on our website, you can also check our maps for any available updates. You can also sign up for outage restoration alertsand learn more about our power restoration process. Safety Reminders Stay away from power lines that have fallen or are sagging. Consider all lines energized as well as trees, limbs or anything in contact with lines. If a power line falls across a car that you’re in, stay in the car. If you MUST get out of the car due to a fire or other immediate life-threatening situation, do your best to jump clear of the car and land on both feet. Be sure that no part of your body is touching the car when your feet touch the ground.  Charge cellphones, computers and other electronic devices in advance of the storm to stay connected to important safety and response information. Consider purchasing portable chargers and make sure they are fully charged as well. Thank you in advance for your patience as we all work together to get through this latest challenge. We hope no one’s power is affected by these storms – but if yours is, we’ll be hard at work, doing everything possible to repair the damage and get you back up and running as quickly as possible.
  13. Chris Justice is talking about the pivot too, hitting the Greenville area sometime between 7:00 - 10:00. Do the models show the pivot?
  14. Heaviest snow of the day right now. Sticking to roofs and evergreen trees. Ground to warm to stick to even grassy surfaces. Cedrick on WYFF showed us ground temp is 49 degrees.
  15. Huge flakes at my house. Took a drive over Altamont Rd. (Paris Mtn.) up to 2000 ft. Snowing hard.
  16. 39 with sleet beginning to mix in with the rain. More sleet than rain. My elevation is 1077.2 ft. *Update a few minutes later. Snow beginning to mix in too. The changeover to snow begins. Based on the radar and drop in temps, I expect at a couple of inches of snow on the grassy surfaces. Going to be fun to watch.
  17. I'm certainly no expert, but at this point, isn't what is falling out of the sky and the radar more of an indicator than the models?
  18. Please, no snow in Asheville during the SoCon basketball tournament.
  19. Check out the outlook discussion for more details on this possible storm scenario.
  20. Thankfully, the heavy rain never arrived here. We received a steady 1.30 inch rainfall during the night.
  21. Best kind of snow event. Snow all day, sticking to everything except the roads. Beautiful day in Greenville, S.C.!
  22. Fun watching (ESPN3) the Furman Lacrosse team playing in the heavy snow at Paladin Stadium.
  23. No, they called for light snow north of 85. They did miss the heavy snow we are getting, but at least they saw the potential. We love Cedric. He is a good one.
