  1. Sounds fun, night time followed by perpetual evening followed by night time. While still in full pandemic restrictions. The Prozac requests must be through the roof.
  2. High atmospheric ash with a heavy marine layer underneath. My buddy said the air quality is not actually that bad right now but it’s dark as can be.
  3. I will ask him to send some, he said the sky is basically black and orange this morning.
  4. Haven’t really noticed here but my friend in San Francisco just texted me and said between the fog and the smoke at 9 AM it is basically like night time there. Surreal.
  5. Glad I held onto my NKLA stock during the carnage.
  6. Hey heads up to Connecticut peeps my vet said that Fairfield County has reported the presence of Gulf Coast Ticks for the first time. They can carry spotted fever and some nasty canine diseases.
  7. This is a good deal if you want to hit a bunch of the smaller classic New England mountains. https://www.indyskipass.com
  8. There are only one or two people here looking for a 1938 redux because they somehow cannot comprehend the implications of such an event.
  9. Need a higher res picture to enlarge but maybe a yellow mud-dauber? Unless it is a yellow jacket or white faced hornet nest I try to leave them alone. A lot of hornets and wasps are good for killing non-beneficial insects. "Solitary" ground wasps/hornets are generally beneficial for the local ecosystem.
  10. A few years ago we got our house completely re-insulated and sealed plus all new lightbulbs for free through the MassSave program. they also gave us a no interest loan for a new furnace. People should definitely take advantage of these programs while they are active. I wish we could’ve taken advantage for the great solar programs in Mass but our yard has a few too many trees.
  11. Except you will probably watch one into Florida one into Carolinas and a few recurves.
  12. Same thing all over Cape Cod. In some cases they build almost exact replicas of the older houses they tear down on the coast line.
  13. Ya' a good old direct hit from an X class solar flare should level the automation playing field on planet Earth. I mean why not right? DIT and others can wish for a 1938 Hurricane why can't I cheer on a Carrington type event?
  14. I'm guessing 50% of remaining independent bars and restaurants go under this winter. Sad but true.
  15. Yeah, I'm probably going full in on the Berkshire East/Catamount/Bosquet unlimited pass tomorrow. It's a great price and I'm pretty sure the Schaefer family will ensure things stay open unless it is absolute armageddon.
  16. Ski resorts are going to be screwed if they start f'n around with season passes. Limiting sales is one thing but if you start changing the rules mid-season you are opening yourself up to lawsuits no matter how many disclaimers you have in the contract. So far no word from Berkshire East and their subsidiaries about any Covid restrictions. Makes me nervous because I only have 2 more days to buy the pass at a discount.
  17. I had to pick it up myself but I scored 2 1/2 cords of well seasoned hardwood for $400 total. Going rate around Greenfield right now is close to $300 / cord for seasoned which is pretty high. Doesn’t really make any sense that there is somewhat of a wood shortage this year because last year was mild. Two of the Wood guys I spoke to said that people were kind of hoarding it this year which is absurd. Toilet paper is one thing but the pandemic and firewood supplies should be a non-issue.
  18. Yes, hopefully the latter one is moving into a well timed, anomalous arctic front. Feet and feet for the interior.
  19. The Connecticut River Valley infrastructure is exponentially larger than it was in 1938. A Storm of that magnitude coming up the CRV in 2020 would probably be the most damaging hurricane in US history. Some would be months without power. The 1938 storm took down over a billion board feet of lumber in New England and New York State. Check out the book “New England hurricane” it was put out by the Federal Writers Project in 1939. You can still find relatively cheap copies. Fantastic pictures.
