Warm/wet, cold/dry

Just looked, 0.68 is record precip for 1/10, so gonna SHATTER that, looks 2.5-2.6" in the gauge now.

Busting WELL low on forecast, currently 38.1/37.4 and rain. Forecast was 52 then 50 for the high...

Just sent in a report to NWS Blacksburg. Measured 2.10 in gauge since 7 am, total since storm started 2.43.

NOT the most 'scientific' way to measure, but stuck the snowruler into 4" gauge and got 1.4", that plus 7 am reading is about 1.75" since it started early this morning. The small 'run' that is 95% dry behind the house is running about 10-12" deep right now.

Awesome! I took my son out the week after he got his learners up to airport road KHSP(3700-4000 elevation) and turned him loose to learn how to drive in the snow. There was about 3-4 inches on the unplowed road and it was pouring. After a few spins and almost getting us into a ditch he figured it out and drove for about an hour with no issues. I allowed him to drive to Snowshoe at 16 because I had confidence in him after that and his driving around with me in the passenger seat every time it snowed/iced. He is 32 now, never had an issue in snow and has lived in Breck or Park City for the last 9 years.

Not sure I've seen a diamond on the models before like this, must be a 'sign'

Flipped back and forth between rain/snow/sleet several times this morning. Mostly rain now and 35.1/34.4. Eyeballing the CoCoRaHS 4" gauge, I'd say another 3/4 inch has fallen since 7 am when I melted 0.33". A degree or two likely would have produced 6+ inches here.... EDIT, about 3/4 inch or so of 'slush' still on ground at 10:45 am.

Picked up almost an inch (0.8) of snow/sleet before it changed over to mostly rain with a few pingers around 7:30. Currently 33.0/32.3 at 7:50 am.

Update. So, had 0.07 at 7 am CoCoRaHS reading, looking like another 3/4 inch is in the 4" gauge part since and it is still coming down at a decent rate. Just IMAGINE what that would have looked like with just a touch better upper levels and even a 7 or 8 to 1 ratio.....

i'm gonna pull a Ji... I can see the backend down near Hillsville/Wytheville area. I've had back and forth mix of sleet and freezing rain. Heavy at times but never more than a coating before it flips to the liquid variety. Currently 31.6/31.0 and freezing rain. Trees are pretty lol.

Well, least 'Shoe is all snow looking at the cameras there. Road trip?

OK, OK! I'll admit it! I did it. I cut and painted two new 2x2 measuring platforms to replace the two oldest that were starting to fall apart on Thursday. Sorry. EDIT- ob, 29.9/28.7 and freezing rain with a pinger or two once in a while at 8:30 am.

Welp, not good news. Temp rose overnight to almost 30 before precip moved in. A small thump of sleet, then a mix of freezing rain and a few sleet pellets now. Currently 29.5/28.3 here, that is about 3 degrees warmer than I expected/predicted. It IS slick!

27.7/18.1 here and locked in. Clouds rolled in during last hour and bumped up from 27.1/17.7 at that time. We will see what happens in a few hours... I'm expecting a -1/+3 ratio to meet at a wet bulb once precip starts to meet somewhere near 25 or 26. THEN temps should start the climb from the warm nose.

I can't remember which storm it was, but I had a like 9 low that morning and it was sleet quickly over to freezing rain by 4 pm.....

Well, least some cold air has made it into the area. Currently 17.3/13.5 after a 17.0 low.
